know he has the mot which is till feb next year , the tax in the window runs out at the end of july and he has the log book (havent checked whos name its in but he says it doesnt say anything about it on the log book ?)
know if i buy it , am i gonna get stitched when i try to tax it , cos it will come up as needing a VIC ??
how can he have the mot , tax and log book ??
can i check on the net tonight ??

Cat C vehicles need a VIC test. Once done, the logbook WILL say something like:
My Sierra 2000e has this as it was Cat-C'd due to being hit in a rear door, which made it uneconomical to repair for the insurance company.
Category D vehicles do NOT need a VIC test. Any Category B vehicles WILL not be allowed back onto the road except in special circumstances.
Category A vehicles are crushers only.
1. Declared new at first registration
2. Substantially repaired and/or accident damaged; identity checked on {enter date}

if dvla says it doesnt need a vic then it doesnt, you can ring them and ask also
taxing it etc wont be a prob as you have a v5 or atleast will have the new keeper bit which is fine, if the cars sound and a good price go for it

as for trusting him about the dvla , i just trusted someones word over my last car cos im a honest bloke my self ..................... but it turned out he lied through his teeth to get the cash out my hands , but thats a story foranother day (it was a member off here !)

quite regular these days if your car is involved the insurance company pay out and leave the car to you to dispose of, so basicly these ppl resell the car in a damaged state or keep using them as is, if the car needs a vic when the logbook is sent off to go into the new blokes name he gets a letter saying, the car is registered into your name but before a logbook can be issued it must be vic'd
some cat c's do slip through the net and dont need a vic, cat d's dont need one
its nothing to panic over, you can ring dvla yourself if it needs one its only 36 quid

why are you fussing so much? if your really that interested call the dvla tell them you just bought a damaged car and ask if it needs a vic, if it does its a bartering point and will be wrote on logbook at bottom, if it doesnt then mateys telling the truth
if the cars worth it and priced well go for it.
id say a good quarter if not third of the cars on the road are right offs, prob 70 percent of them the owners dont even know it.
i do lots salvage allways declare it though, but then i only do ka's corsa's etc... easy sellers

it also depends how long ago it was made a cat c if it was b4 all this vic test stuff it will be ok i can't remember when they changed it now that bit they put on the bottom of the log book wrecks me they couldn't make it sound worse!
