standard leads an plugs bin on car 4 a while now its bin bugging me 4 couple weeks its just sounds so horrible in first gear its imbrassing but every gear pulls like animal till it gets to 4000 revs like i said then sounds like some driving a diseal van

pinking is detonation, on a turbo car caused by wrong AFR, normal cars normally timing out, yours could be a combination of both.

now to me pinking dont sound like a diesel it sounds more like a mettalic sound, thats why didnt suggest it

 

I wish 1.6 CVHs would run as smooth as a modern Transit Diesel...

Either it's pinking/detonating or there's something wrong in the cylinder head. (Rocker arm broken/loose?, hydraulic tappets leaking? camshaft worn?)

 

i am having the same problem m8 but my oil light is also flickering on and off on idle i was thinkin down the lines off changin the oil pump and a new set of lifters ...... will any1 no if this will solve my problem because my timing is spot on

 

Low oil pressure obviously!!!

Don't drive it like that or it'll be f'cked in no time...

What you probably hear is the cylinder head running without lubrication and wrong valve clearance since the tappets don't get enough oil.

 

i havent been driving it its been off the road for a while now just gettin all the bits together for a rebuild ... iain

 

Has it been off the road for quite some time before it started losing oil pressure? So far I've had two RST's with bad oil pressure due to a blocked up oil cooler (the thing thats between engine block and oil filter).

 

Low oil pressure and knocking can also be big ends!!
