front diff oil seal
Hi the seal on the input shaft of my front diff (4x4 saff Cos) seems to leak but mainly when giving it some on the track.
It does`nt do it so much when driving steady, do ya think that on the track the oil is getting hot thus becoming thin and pushing past the seal ?
Any ideas suggestions would be great, will try get new seal this week.
Cheers steve

input shaft?
you mean on the input shaft on the pinion?
or the output shaft to the osf wheel?
or the sealing ring on the diff to sump join?
the output to the driveshaft is easy, remove driveshaft, remove seal, refit seal, refit driveshaft
the pinion is a little more difficult as you need to remove the drive flange
the sump seal is tricker still as you need to remove the diff

I've got the same problem, when just cruising it stays dry, but accellerate a bit and there's is oil from the diff.
I thought the seal at the diff site for the connection axle from the gearbox was hard to change from what I read in the Service Manual.

Yeah i think ya av to take off the flange using couple bolts screwed into flange holes so ya can then put a lever between them to hold from spinning while ya undo centre nut.
Looks in the manuel that its a special tool to remove the seal an another to install new 1, but suppose ya can prise old 1 out, then use a large socket or similar to tap new 1 home. cheers steve

remove the prop
put the car back on the ground again
use the weight of the car to stop the nut from turning
OR
put the car on the deck, figure out which way is undoing, put on the breaker bar and socket, move the car forwards or backwards to crack the nut, job jobbed
just make sure you don't totaly remove the prop or else all the oil pisses out the hole int he trasnfer case
