as above dudes, been thinking of doing this a while but would like to know what needs to be done, think i read somewhere on here you need to cut a hole in the bulkhead, is that right, any advice, tips or step by step guide very much appreciated.

the mk4 and 5 dash is the same as far as i know, mk6 is very different, can picture it at the mo, the shell on the 4&5 is similar to the mk3 so i know the dash will fit, unkown as to mk6 dash, would say no though

lol

you need to modify the dash down by the centre console

also the heater controls in a mk4/5 are all electric so the wiring would be nightmare

gadget off here did it in his fiesta put FAO GADGET in the title.

also i think there will be slight gap arround by the windscreen

The dash fits in the hole where the old dash was, but thats about it! the centre fixing at the top doesn't line up, but the 2 outer ones do, so the cenre one can be left, the 4 fixings at the side don't line up so new holes need drilling in the body to mount the dash! you can leave the mk3 heater box in and all you lose is the 2 centre vents, you'll need the mk4 plastic pipes that go to the outer vents and cut them half way and join to the mk3 ones so you have mk3 at the heater box end and mk4 at the vent ends!
The fan switch can be wired to the mk4 one all you don't have is the 4th setting as mk4's have 4 and mk3's have 3!
the heater controls can be wired through the heater valve from a mk4 where the pipes go through the baulkhead, you just need the valve from a mk4 onwards fiesta and it's one wire, a variable resistor that opens or shuts the valve to let more or less water through!
The screen, feet or vents selection is the hardest bit, you can either manual adjust it with the lever on the heater box or i made a proper panel for mine and mounted the slider into it! this is because mk3's have cables and the mk4 onwards is electric!
some people have kept the mk3 clocks in but IMO they look shit cos the fit crap into the mk4 dash, i used mk4 white clocks which have 2 small multi plugs instead of 1 big one, you just need to join all the wires to the 2 plugs!
then obviously wire up all the mk4 switches!
You have to trim a lot of the metal bracing away in the dash where it goes over the mk3 steering column as the mk3 one is alot bigger and squarer!

Hope that helps, now i can take a breath

putting my mk5 dash in has taken me about a week to do (2 full days and a few evenings)

only prob being im still having trouble wiring the bloody heaters in!

cutting the bulkhead was slightly worring and tricky to make sure you cut the right bit the right size!

getting the actual dash in was easy tho!

wouldnt recomend it tho really cos of the wiring!

dont have any problems wiring stuff in, its cutting the hole that is pitting me off and having to move the ecu.
what problem did you incounter? and have you any picture of it now or whilst you were doing it?

didnt move the ecu,

i cheated and used the mk3 location bolts to hold the main bit of the mk5 heater matrix in - this way the whole of the mk3 hole in the builkhead is complelty filled without leaving a gap! it does meant tho that it sits slightly off to the right instead of the correct position for the dash but doesnt have any detrement!

dont have any pics at mo, aint been and took a pic of it! nore did i fiting it as i just couldnt be bothered!

lol, did you get a mate to fit it?
when you say the whole of the hole in the bulkhead is filled, did you have to cut some more away?
and did you over come the problem with the center vents not lining up hense not working?

Mk4/5 dash conversion is surprisingly easy, but you need a haynes manual (or detailed Ford wiring diags) for Mk3 and Mk4/5 as you have to do some creative loom jiggery-pokery.

Here's my bodge-it-'n-leggit guide: http://fiftyoneCL.hopto.org/st2000/f...riorguide.html

Rich, read my guide, it's all in there (altho the Mk5 clocks info is out of date 'cos it was only theory then).

Didn't have to move the ECU, altho I will need to pop the dash off to change it (no big deal) and the Mk5 clocks are surprisingly easy to fit, but you need a Mk5 fuel tank to get the gauge to read right.

Heater works fine on all 4 positions. Heat comes out of all 4 vents but the left one is a bit weak (check the fitting guide for an explanation).

read it mate... its a quality guide!!!

why've you gotta take the dash off?? what you gotta change??

i knew the clocks were easy to fit, just didnt know how you made the clocks work.. was the tank any trouble fitting it? how did you make the the original mileage read the right mileage of your car?

sorry for all the questions mate.....

looks good mate, but its the cutting of the bulk head that still puts me off, as for clocks, they look good dude, but i would want to keep the mk3 clocks as there 150mph one's and all my history about my car states millage where it can and wouldnt want to mess that up.

Rich, glovebox sits under the ECU (so it pins it in place). Dash clocks HAVEN'T been clocked The car is on ~120k.

Tank *should* bolt straight in - I haven't fitted it to that one as I'm reshelling in the new year.

jayRS - each to their own mate, but the Mk3 clocks are a bunch of inaccurate toss (about 10% inaccuracy compared to the Mk5 clocks on GPS-checked mileage).

You *can* reset the mileage on the digi clocks, but it's not widely-available knowledge (and no, I don't know how to do it I'm afraid).

think the later escort clocks are the same as the mk4/5 clocks, surely the rs2000 or GTi would have them upto 150mph?!?!

there must be some electrical boffin out there who could play about with the mileage readout.....

so its not black, but you know that...
