Unhappy sick staffie

just had my dog back from the vets after she was diagnosed with pyometra!! which is a serious problem and she basically had to have an operation to remove her womb. she was very close to dying if the vet hadnt operated on her. she is still very poorly and hopefully she will get 100%. she is an amazing pet as she is fantastic with my 2year old boy.

hope she recovers 100% - at least she had the op before it was too late. I have my fingers crossed for her x

What were the signs she had a problem if you dont mind me asking. Do you know if its a common problem in all breeds or just staff's?

Sorry for the questions but so many people on here own dogs I suppose that helping us see the signs will allow us to get assistance asap too

she basically was just having her normal season and then as the days were getting on i just noticed her blood getting almost black but with little discharge in it (gross i know) but then she was panting alot and just seem quite swollen underneath her belly. she wasnt eating at all and she was really just not moving anywhere apart from going to the toilet. so got her to emergency vet and then they scanned her and seen fluid on her womb and said they got to get the womb out or she will be die basically. they did the op and couldnt believe how much of a bad state she was in.
they did say that it quite common in bitch staffs but recomend that if you dont intend to breed them spay them. i would b gutted to lose her as she has been brilliant.

hope your dog makes a full recovery, horrible when they are ill.

very common problem with staffs, should be spayed before their first season really unless your planning to breed them prevents this aswell as reproductive cancers as they get older.

Awww, hope she gets well soon. I know it's awful when they are ill and have a serious operation. It's such a worrying time. Sounds like you got her to the vets in time!

Hope she is ok xx

Having our 5 yr old GSD speyed in 3 weeks time because of the fear of pyometra.

We have had to hold off having her speyed because of HD and getting her weight down to her being thin, so we can manage the weight gain that speyed bitches usually have so as not to put anymore strain on her hips.

3001paulh hope your staffie gets well soon.
