I need the Battery tray in my RST replaced and i have got a new one to put in, I was gonna try to get the car to Dave (Dave from beds grp) but the trailer i had planned is now a no go. so have spoken to a mobile welder, he said i am looking at min £70 to weld in the new tray as long as i provide the new tray and make sure the car is stripped etc, (which is already is lol) is this a good price?
Good price id say, its nice and cheep because you have stripped the car for him, most expensive bit on nearly every job now is the labour, HR Owen (jag and landrover dealer) near me is on £80+ an hour labour rates!
I reckon for £70 he will just weld the new tray over the top of the old one. Sounds far too cheap for a decent job IMO.
There will be alot of grotty metal there. It isn't a very nice job i'm afraid.

I paid £190, keep in mind how good a job they will do, do you want the welds grinding off and smooting out, are be left with a weld line??
Be clear how you want the finished thing to look and set a price £70 aint bad, remember there is usually a lot more work involved once you get it cut out and see if rust has spread elswhere.

Done a couple of these lately. one on my S2 turbo and spent ages drinding the welds back then leveling off with flexible filler before coating with seam sealer before painting. looks really good after painting
The other was on my S1 track car, that was piss easy as the car was already totally stripped, just buffed the welds a bit then dressed in seam sealer again before painting.

Gra is the old tray already chopped out and the rotten metal removed and cut back to fresh solid metal ready for the tray to be welded in ? If not your better spending a bit more on getting the job done right 1st time than spending a few £££ just getting a tray bodged in over the top of already rotten metal.
Goodluck
i mobile welder wound have all the right tools to do the job corectly imo
belt linishers and die grinder run off a air line it needed to get it right i would charge £170 for a job into primer and it would look fatory finish sealed and waxoiled aswell

Here's a nice bit of Saturday morning cheer for you.......
For those that are worried about Battery trays, you might also want to take a look up at the top of the bulkhead above the Pedal Cluster, from inside the car. Its the bit under the Wiper motor, but look from inside the car.
Thats normally nasty too and there doesn't appear to be a repair panel that covers that, except the one that does the whole bulkhead from the Fuse box to the Battery tray. There is normally grot down onto the vertical part of the bulkhead too.
