Default Oil Pressure gauge fitting problem. Advice please

I've been fitting some new gauges in my Cossie and I'm having problems with the oil pressure gauge. Up untill now i,ve always been lucky and when fitting new gauges i,ve managed to use the pipe and fittings from the old gauges making it a doddle.
This time, however, i,ve got some Stack mechanical gauges and have had to use thier pipes and fittings etc as the old ones were different. Having routed the rediculously springy plastic pipe to the oil pressure sender adaptor on the block i figured i,d need to run the car up to bleed the pipe. However having sat in the car for ages watching the oil SLOWLY working its way up the pipe i eventually attatched the pipe to the gauge. NOTHING. Now i expected this having waited SO long for the oil to get down the pipe. Its as if i have no oil pressure but i know thats not the case !! Whats happening? I'm obviously doing something wrong but what ??
Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers Gaz !
