You need to have a fast emough switching speed, from the lambda, as they slow with age, and will cause your symptoms, as they do not react quick enough to mix changes.

cheers for that , ive just been told too unplug the idle control valve aswell when running
and it should stall , if not i have an air leak ,and mine dosent stall, so i have listened around the inlet manifold and yes i can hear hissing around the injectors
been told too renew the rubber o rings around the injectors , have you heard off that before

sorry for the hi jack on post , but it may help your mate out aswell , as i have been told this is a common problem on these cars

Yes this is common and you can't get the O rings from ford no more. Apparently B&Q sell rings that fit though. The other thing to try is to take them out, freeze them , then dunk them in boiling water and refit. This can soften them up enough to seal the injectors again.

There was a dodgy fuse in some part of the ECU which meant that it was on the limp home programe all the time, so it ran really poor, it took my local ford garage three goes to diagnose the problem, as the computer on the car wouldnt talk to the diagnostic machine, it was only by chance when they check the fuses that they found one was bust. Not quite sure why it went to limp home but as soon as they changed the fuse it was like a different car, didnt idle all over the place and pull like a train. The mechanic siad he'd never known it happen before mine

ok mine did have an air leak on the rubber seals , that now has been sorted , but the car still idles rough and uses a lot off fuel

TABETHA , checked again today and the signal is a lot slower than normal , that i see on other cars
doo you think they need replaceing ? been told today just too unplug them , and the car should run smoother , if it does i should replace them , is that good advice

Interesting ways, so what are the sugestions?
I tried to unplug the ISCV and the car did stall, so thats not it. The other thing about the leak and lambda... how do you check lambda for being slow??
