Default cossie using loads of fuel

firstly ill say im NOT complaining about the mpg or anything like that, but i genuinely believe that my car is using a lot of fuel.it has been sitting around for about 2 years and has only covered 600 miles in that time.it idles a bit high and the revs sometimes dip and rise when it is ticking over.there are no leaks and i am not using it hard.is there a sensor or injector that can fail causing it to burn more fuel?the tailpipe is no more black than normal but it does smell a bit rich!any ideas?

For the last couple of weeks I've noticed my Cossie is using loads of fuel, I'm getting 200 to a tank around town. I put it down to the cold, and I normally warm the car up before setting off, which takes a while in this cold weather.

When was it last set up mate? Mine was pretty similar to be honest, it was costing shitloads to run and the emissions were sky high. Worth getting it looked at in my opinion as it could save you costly repairs in the future

never i bet.it was totally standard and had been owned by the same guy for 9 years.i doubt he ever had it set up,the guy after him only had it a short while and the thieving scumbag that nicked it probably never set it up either.thats why it has sat for so long,1 year in a salvage yard then 1 year with me being rebuilt and made better.im going for a stage 3 conv soon so ill put up with its thirst till then.unless its an easy fix as my nearest reputable tuner is miles away!

The ISCV will NOT affect the mpg, but does control the idle speed, it is located on top of the throttle housing, and has a two pin connector plug going to it.
Clean by spraying with carb cleaner liberally, then spray with silicone spray or silicone polish afterwards.
Most likely is the injectors have gummed up, very common with low use cars that sit for ages.
If going stage three you will have to change the std yellows/blues for either greens, normally reffered to as 803's, or siemens injectors depending on the chip etc that you use, so again I wouldn't worry till then, though injector cleaner will probably help a LITTLE, and is cheap in the meantime.

i had a similar problem with mine

using loads of fuel and the revs went up and down a bit

turned out to be a very slight leak on the inlet manifold gasket

The only 100% effective way to clean injectors, is with a ASNU or similar ultrasonic cleaner, this is what I always do mine with, if you have to pay to get it done about £50/60 normally for a set.

the revs dont go up and down all the time,i spoke to my friend,he has a stage 1 2wd cossie,i told him how much fuel i was using and he said he would get a lot more mpg to me,i dont drive mine hard and neither does he,he reckoned he would get about 75 miles to £10 of fuel,i dont think i would get that.how do you check for a leak at the inlet manifold?

try changing your coolant sensor, did this one mine before it died and the mpg went up to about 30 on a run.

Fans are controlled by a fan switch and VERY dodgy ford wiring.
A rewire is a MUST DO THING.
CTS sensor only gives info to ECU, fan control totally seperate, most end up burning out the fusebox terminals sometimes with fires etc!!
75 miles on a tenner is pushing it a bit unless he is extrememly gentle, my stage one used to do on a run 34, but was GGR chip, but buggered if I can drive that sensibly for long, didn't get the car to do that!!

I'm getting about 75 miles to £20, and that's not thrashing it. Ok stage 3 Greens etc, but still, doesn't seem right.
