Default coil packs

Just a quick question please, was thinking about going to coil packs on my escort, was speaking about this with someone. They weren't sure, but thought cossie's running coil packs, the rev counters don't work. Is this the case?
Thanks

easy enough to mod on the escort mate, you just have to fit a mk5 rs2000 rev counter mechanism.

RS2000 yes.

look like this

Literally change the working parts behind the rev counter.

Note what rpm your car idles on before changing and then after, reset the needle with the front face of the clocks off ( clear plastic bit) and the engine running

You need to run a feed to the green wire from the rev counter, to ONE of the OUTSIDE (neg) wires on the new coilpack plug (3 wires).

Any probs I have pics of what to do. (on a Big turbo escos!!)

All i did with mine was solder a wire in the back of the rev counter............the instructions off Stu were easy to follow.

if you have the secs driver board of msd , part of it is a driver to drive the original rev counter so the dash doesn't have to come out at all

Yeah - mine is really odd
the rev-counter used to read half once the coipack conversion was fitted to mine.. - fitted an rs2k revcounter, and now it seems to read double? And my rev-counter on the sec monitor deosn't work at all

is yours one of the early secs driver boards? my 1st one read half even after doing the wiring mod,

your rs2k rev counter should work if you are picking up the earth of 1 of the coils as that is exactly how it picks up on the rs2K. i suspect you are using the feed from the secs board onto your new rev counter....?

how exactly is the loom configured, to pick up one side of one of the coils to drive the tacho = should be if you are running the rs2K tacho, or from the pin at the ecu as per std install using original tacho via the original wiring at the coil back to the tacho?

an easy test would be to hold the car at around 3K revs, and get someont to disconnect the multiplug from the coilpack. if the rev counter drops to 0 immediately that the wiring is correct. if it drops down matching the engine speed as the engine stops to 0 then its wired as a std car using the driver board to supply the rev counter feed.
