YET ANOTHER BIG POWER ENGINE ON SECS S8 ECU - 632 BHP
Sorry everyone this is a blatent advert for me and a few others....
This afternoon, my friend Nick Lewis (a NEW PF user NIL 7090)
had his cosworth YB engine dynoed at Norris Designs.
The engine specification is as follows....
ENGINE SPECED/BUILT BY NORRIS DESIGNS (DAVE MIDGLEY / SIMON NORRIS / NICK LEWIS)
MAPPED BY SIMON NORRIS
HEAD PORTING AND TEA MAKING BY SPENCER ATHAY (aka PF spenner)
CAPACITY 2.0 LITRES
JE PISTONS TO NORRIS DESIGNS SPEC.
COMPRESSION RATIO (NOT DISCLOSED)
4 x 1000cc SARD FUEL INJECTORS
SWEDISH INLET MANIFOLD (SUPPLIED BY MIKE RAINBIRD)
METRO 6R4 THROTTLE BODY
GARRET GT30/40 HYBRID WITH EXTERNAL WASTEGATE
BOOST LIMITED TO 2.0 BAR AT ALL TIMES ELECTRONICALLY
8200 rpm REV LIMIT
PORTED HEAD (STANDARD SIZE VALVES)
CAMS NORRIS DESIGNS SPEC.
CAM VERNIERS
SOLID LIFTERS
LONG STUDDED HEAD BOLTS
METAL 3 LAYER HEAD GASKET
LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL
BLUE PRINTED AND BALANCED CRANK/RODS
HIGH FLOW PISTON OIL JETS
OIL COOLER
SPEC R CUSTOMISED 4 PORT BREATHER SYSTEM
ALLOY CRANK PULLEY WITH IRON LUGS FOR CRANK SENSOR
SECS S8 ENGINE MANAGMENT
SECS S8 COIL PACK IGNITION SYSTEM
5 BAR MAP SENSOR
CLOSED LOOP LAMBDA FUELLING (NOT AT FULL LOAD)
The engine was initialy started and mapped for idle and acheives a stable idle
at 1000 rpm with a lambda reading of 1.00 (AFR 14.7:1)
Then the engine was fully mapped with a flat line controlled maximum boost of 2.0 Bar.
The fuel was then changed for race fuel and the ignition table modified and then
a second maping session with power run was made.
I wanted them to run a bit more boost personally but the engine was mapped conservativley
due to Nick shitting him self and not wanting to rebuild it too often !
I must say I have rarely seen such a flat torque curve as on this engine and remember
it is torque that gives acceleration.
Just remember, this is ONLY still a 2.0 litre and does NOT run NOS.
I cannot give any further specifications/details as these were not given to me and/or
the engine builders were keeping it a bit quiet.
The results....
PUMP FUEL 97 RON: 584 bhp @ 7440 rpm / 450 lb/ft @ 6090 rpm
RACE FUEL 118 RON: 632 bhp @ 7650 rpm / 474 lb/ft @ 6040 rpm
I have posted a few piccys....

NICK PRETENDING TO BE A MAPPER

Bugger, forgot to get pictures of ECU
Thanks to Nick Lewis and Simon Norris for putting faith in the S8
Right, let the put downs comence .....

I didn't realise just porting the head would allow it to flow enough to reach that power.

makes such a statement.
Unfortunately, I can only take credit for the ECU system.

Some stats:
Add together the BHP output of Porkie's, Brom's and Nick's engines - ALL running SECS S8....and you got 1,856 BHP
Then add Phils DIY engine (488 BHP) ??????? whats the total for the four engines?
2,344 BHP ???

Dont know what type this will be though.
Simon I bet Nicks happy
Cant wait till he starts going to the shootouts will be very fast,
You may want to edit and put in Who did the head work as you never know who will take the credit
.

It was that chap "spenner" who did the head job

no one else cant do the same !
not a dig or anything but why wasnt trick rods used so the revs can rise to high 8000 looking at that surly would see well over 600 bhp on pump fuel if the revs where to climb and more boost
well done carnt wait to get mine strapped on the dyno so see what it will put out wont be long now
