I was fucked off at spending 30 quid a week just waste my life away...
Well, to be fair, its more the health side of it, plus standing outside in the freezing cold, made me feel a mug really
Gave up.. last puff on a ciggy was new years day at 5am
gone cold turkey and so far so good.. Fucking gagging tho as I've just had a meal
Anyone else with me on this one??

I've got NO self control and can't do it. Tried countless times to quit, can't do it. Stressfull job, long hours sitting in traffic, etc etc... Would love to give it up if just for the money (£45 a week

first month is the hardest, you've got be strong and want to quit or you'll fail. All these posters about saving money and shit is bollox.... You spend it on other things, trust me....
the worst time is down the pub, but with the smoking ban you can be all warn and cosy without having to go outside in the fuckin freezing cold for a smoke..

Me and the missus quit 6 years ago COLD TURKEY.With us what worked is chewing gum,not nicotine gum,just normal wriggleys extra.
Just don't replace fags for food.I put on 2 stone when i quit.

And yes I would love to save £2k a year - nice holiday that would pay for, and yes I am a loser - but fuck it, such is life....
I dont think I was really ever addicted as I found it pretty easy to stop, I stopped 2 days after xmas 2006 and the hardest time was new years eve in a house party but I stuck to my guns! I hate the smell of it but still odly get a notion for one if I find myself in situations where i'd normally light up, like letting the dog out for a piss on the doorstep on a cold night etc...after a pint/cuppa T...jus try an break the routine, DONT buy any, that helps ALLOT...as if you dont have any then you cant smoke them! DONT go out with your mates etc when they go for a smoke in the pub or whatever. It gets easier!

Ginge ! Do you have any tips? I find when I go the gym I tell myself I will go downstairs to the equipment but I always end up in the pool area relaxing. It's so hard when there's a door and one is heaven and one is hell. When I would like going the gym to be heaven.

then find a machine or a weight thats heavyish,, try it then go down,,,,, then after a while when you can lift 1 HEAVIER than that you will get a buzz
i find sundays i cant get into it..... hard to lift weights as i go early and need to wake up so i stick at it with lighter weights till i get more alert then get into it
when you are in PAIN,,,, and is stretching and you see your all swollen up you will look forward to the next time
ALWAYS go "pamper" yourself after training in the steamroom/sauna
i was like you,,,,, started back at the gym just over a year ago,,,, couldnt get into it as my mate was benching 45 to 50kg each side and i couldnt stop the bar fucking moving,, couldnt balance it unless i was 10kg each side
then one day after fucking about with the machines and lifting them, then doing curls i went and lifted 80kg on the chest press machine by accident,,,,,, but i lifted it and before i was struggling to lift 45kg on it
i went to the bar and lifted 25kg and done 8 reps,,,,,, ALMOST but no quite touching my chest
i got a sence of achivement and NOW,,,,, well im benching 40kg to my chest and u managed to lift 50kg each side and get it half way down for 6 reps though i cant do more than 2 reps almost touching my chest
on the chest machine we are BOTH now adding 40kg EXTRA weights to the machine and people stare at us and cant lift the 140kg on the machine,,,,,,, its a sort of arogance or just attention
either way its a buzz in the gym and we get along with everyone there,,,, where before i was just a weak fat cunt,,, now im looked at as a big strong guy,,,,,, nobody cares im a fat cunt still

i do MAX 8 reps on most stuff i do or 10 when im going back down the weights
i cant row for more than 7 mins and even then i need to work to keep me interested,,,, running ect the same thing but i FORCE myself to do the warm-ups as its good for you and if i dont i get pains bad
just find a way you ENJOY training
do pressups on your knuckles with your legs elevated higher or with the press up bar things that you hold to go further down
do stuff to keep you learning ALWAYS change routine, never plan what your gonna do,,,, look at a maching/bench thats empty and look around what others are doing to help how you are gonna train the muscle group day it is
as said ive been going over a year,,,, though only been interested in it from may this year,,,,, before i wasnt serious and i was fucking about missus days
these days i dont go out saturday night or if i do i will stop drinking at 12am as i got gym sunday and it affect my training
ive missed a weeks training due to going on holiduy and a few days that i couldnt avoid,,,, otherwise i WONT miss training just like i wont just call in sick from work
but even when i do do it right i still get bored like if somebody says do 50 press ups id do 40 cos im bored

started on 20kg, done 10 reps... then 30 and done 10 reps, then 35 and done 8 reps.. then another 8 reps, then 40 and done 8 reps and another 6 reps then 45 and done sort of 5 reps...... though not on chest then 50 and done 2 good ones and 2 SHITE ones with help
then started doing flat bench on 28kg dunbells lifting like a bar,,, doing 8 of them the going straight onto doing 30kg and trying to do 6 reps
then 32kg dunbell doing 7 reps and then straight back to the bar doing 7 of 20kg
then 36kg dunbells doing ( woth help too as i was wobbly) then trying to lift 20,, couldnt so went to 10 and was light at first then my forearms was burning and then my shoulder
try it,,,,,, it dont sound much but fuck me that hurts

All things like that which help you along. Also the comment about chewing gum is correct. When i'm at work i chew gum by habit and i think it helps. I was only allowed to smoke at work at breaktimes so when i was on the plant i chewed gum even before i packed up. That's a habit i really don't mind
Also weight gain is another thing which has effected me... Now... I'm a bit of a skinny motherfucker (understatement)
BUT 5 months after quitting i put on 18% more bodyweight
I wasn't eating that much more but suddenly had this massive gut which i only usually had a christmas. I do a bit of walking now instead of driving round friends etc and that's help me to lose about 10% of what i put on... I feel a lot healther for myself and i'm really glad a gave up when i did
About 95% of my friends smoke like fuck and being a non-smoker now they absolutely fuckin STINK!!!
when i picked 2 of them up last weekend for a night out as soon as they sat in my car all i smelt was smoke.. it STUNK!!!!! And to make matters worse thinking about it i smelt like that too! What a put off to others... In 2 weeks time i'm having my first proper healthcheck at work. They test all the usual stuff including lung function. My nurse said i'm due a 30-45% increase in lung function... I will post the results when i have the test later on in the month

Completly agree with what Smit's said... I cannot see how the fook I lived smoking 20-40 fags a day costing £35 a week est. Im buying more DVD's, etc and had all the top games consoles (Wii, XB360, PS3, Nintendo DS) as "I can" now lol. If I don't buy anything something always seems to use the money I now save??

Went to the Doctors and asked for help (Patches are £7 for 3 weeks on NHS and £20-£30 per pack otherwise). I wasn't 100% confident in giving up, but it was "My time" as I thought about it for a while! Doctor told me to come day on XX day and have 1 last fag the night before, but make it a bad experience (i.e. tag deep breathes making you cough). I smoked 3 fags one after another
Went to the Doctors with me 1st patch on and she was happy so far. Booked in an appointment for 7days time. It was hard the first week as it felt like I should be outside smoking all the time. Was hard to break the habit and remember "Ive given up" lol I had 6 fags odd left in the "Last box", which me Mrs hid from me.
After the 1st week I asked for the patches to be reduced, but the Doc said I have to be on the for 4 weeks. Then 2nd and 3rd stages for 4 weeks each. I agreed and got another prescription. Upon the 2nd visit everything was going fine, the habits were easing off.
During the 3rd week I was ill and missed my Doc appointment. The patches were making me more dizzy and sick feeling (Too much Nicotine ntake), so I cut the patches in half. Missed my 4th appointment as the Doc was on holiday. One day my patch fell off and I was soooooo moody and wante a fag. Got a new patch and a few days later I my patch fell off again, so I left it off. I haven't used a patch since
The Doc phoned 2 weeks later asking how I was going and I explained the story. She said she had never have someone give up completly that quickly (Obviously there are people), so made me feel rpoud to of beaten it!!!
Ive put on loads of weight tho
