What the hell is the difference... in the engines apart from the power?
(not car spec as they seem to be all specs)

Change over from TDDI to TDCI is 03-53 which was the old difference if memory serves correct but all the 53 on cars seem to be TDCI and they either have 115 or 130 bhp.

I dont get whats going on- even down the auctions they had 2 identical cars and one was 115 and one was 130.

also the newer ones are commonrail diesels which are easyier to tune....bit more boost n all that

 

the tdCi's were in the higher end models hwhile the tdDi's were in the cheaper versions

 

I know what you're saying but they're all labeled as TDCI from 53 onwards but with the 2 different horse powers.

 

tdci 115 is a 1.8
tdci 130 is a 2.0

Thats the only difference, apart from the BHP difference

You can tell the difference by looking at the actuator, the 130 is mounted differently to the 115. (I think!!)

 

Same story as the VAG 1.8T units, 150, 180 or 225 brake, all the same basic engine

great cars the 130 TDCI's... But make sure the clutch and flywheel have been done recently, the dual mass flywheel has a habit of shitting itself, my dads and my brothers went within 6 months of each other, Ł700 bill each time . Also check it dosn't pull to the left and check for uneven tyre wear, they really suffer from front subframe bush problems, and can kill tyres VERY quickly if they are not spot on. Apart from that they are great cars, nice to drive and munch miles easy

 

I had one for 2 years so I am fully aware about the tyre munching but the flywheel thing- my mate had his done and I honestly drove mine like I stole it as it was a work car and had no probs in best part of 80k.. I can only say thats luck of the draw- Ł700 sounds nice and cheap..


Maybe I'll buy a golf instead.

The Duel Mass Fly wheel and Clutch IS a weak point on the TDCI's.

Regardless how you drive a clutch is still going to wear out eventually and this is where the problems start.

When the clutch starts to slip (even a little) it slowly fooks up the DMF and all the fly wheel filings fook up the starter and might need replacing or if you can, just a clean up.

this is where the buying advice is for the Mk3 Mondeo diesel (upto 2007)

The injectors might need re-coding as well as sometimes they forget but this is normally on higher milage cars,but can happen on the lower milage cars aswell.

If you do go for the 115bhp i would get it chipped for the Ł300 odd pounds that it costs, up to 145bhp and Stu @MSD does it.
Havent had mine done yet, but its supposed to transform the car totaly.

This is why they are easy to stall, which if you think about it is very unusual for a diesel... As you get close to stall the ECU will kill the engine rather than let you kill the DMF completely.

I always thought they were a twat to pull away in ... Most weasels you just ease the clutch up and off you go, but the TDCI family needs revs to pull away cleanly.... All is explained

 

the best day of my life when i picked up my mondeo tdci 115bhp ghia x, super comfy in the heated leather seats, and sony 6 cd changer,
but when i was sat in traffic i noticed tht the clutch was making a knocking noise, i did some reasarch and found out its the dmf, to prove i was right i took it back to where i got it from, and they confirmed it, i had an argument with the garage about who should pay for the repair, as i only had the car a week. i ended up paying but it was a favour from the clutch garage so i got it done for Ł400 all in clutch flywheel master cylinder, but they fitted a single flywheel conversion. not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing. any ideas?

Not a bad thing but has on some occasions been know to give trouble,it has been said on here (PF) that it can damage the crank to the extreme in snapping it,my self i havent heard of this but that means nothing really.

The only real saving is if you have it replaced again, but driven correctly you should see good milage from it anyway.

 

yeh i have seen good milage from it, far better than my 1.8 petrol focus lol.
i have avr 55-60 mpg on motorways and 45-50 around town. im verry happy with it. as said before its a verry annoying thing as there are no tell tale signs of it going faulty. if you have the radio on you pro wont hear it. and then its to late. if it goes completely it will be a new gearbox and maybe engine. the only tell tale symptoms i had was a slight nock (noise not feeling) when the clutch was pressed. under driving no noise, when in neutral no noise. id advise everyone to check out there clutch it only takes a min. turn the radio off, press the clutch and listen for a unusual nock.

you can but it’ll be underpowered, they’ll also need coding, they aren’t the same injector.

I guess your referring to injector coding? It depends on the program your using, most programs use firing order but a couple I’ve seen use cylinder order, usually the program will tell you or there will be info on the net.

Pretty sure the difference is a tune
Think both also came in a 5 or 6 speed but 6th is a bit tall for the 115
