Default Traction prob

Hi folks,

For the first time in my life I am truly scared of my car!!

1000cc inj, T70 turbo, highly spec head, 2.6BAR of boost =

this is in a 2wd saff with 215\tyres.

rev limit set to 8600, at 7000rpm its pulling so hard in 4th I wimp out and shut the throttle as its broken traction passing a load of cars

Yes its just plain stupid, when I started building it I just wanted as much power (without nos) as I could get. sounded like a good idea at the time, but I have built something that just makes my legs tremble when I boot it. Makes me sound like a poof but I guess you need to be in it.

fit wider tyres, if you can get 255's on a 3 door you can get them on a saph too i guess

I am pretty sure on a saff there is not enough room under the arches, unless I am wrong (which is distinctly possible). Does anyone know a good combo on the rear??

get the grinder out then, i have but only run 235/40, easier to do on a 3 door as you can hide your grindings with the skirts

a proper adjustable rear beam is a must if its lower than std ride height (mines std height), you need the correct camber or its all over the place

no word of a lie mine used to light 5th gear up on std suspension, std wheels and shit tyres, that was peaking at just over 2 bar @ 3400rpm, now peaks at 2.6 bar and dont break traction from 3rd upwards unless its wet or im shift too aggressively

my suspension is still shit mind (koni's) so it can and will get better when i get the billies ive been promising myself for ages

oh and my rear tyres and continental sports

Neil, have you tried even a set of 225's on the rear, these fit on the rear no probs with ECOS rims but mabey the offset plays a part

Get a proper adjustable rear beam on it then Makes the handling spot on! Remember every time you boot it and it squats you don't have 215mm in contact with the road but more like 20mm with a standard beam

comes on at 5000rpm, 5300rpm is 1BAR of boost, after that its hard to tell, it comes on stronger than Mike Tyson on steroids. All I can tell you so far is that I have capped the boost at 2.6BAR and have not been beyond 8000rpm (it will rev to 8600). I have a photo of the Turbo on the car but dont know how to post it. For those of you that said at trying to keep it on the road you are quite right it is WICKED mixed with EVIL av it.

Err I do not have any arch rubbing probs mate, never said I did. "TRACTION PROBLEM" as a title was just to generate a bit if interest to the people on the board. I was merely asking the question, what have people fitted??

and yes I did build it, along with a lot of others, I just dont advertise or post much so you wont have heard much, if anything of me.

And as for you Neil Hicks, good lad, nice to hear you got it finished and it made the power, sorry about all the fat chewing, just get a bit enthusiastic about Cossies.

Grip is 80% your choice of rubber. The softer the more grip you get. Did you say you had continentals on? They are quite long-lasting tyres, which tell you they are a harder compound. I like the Pirelli P zero-nero's for grip, but my pocket hates them! I found a good balancewith Falkens, as I'm not producing anywhere near the power you are, they suit me fine, but with that much power, you need the best, and the widest. I'd go for 255 p-zero-neros... But that's me, there's plenty of chioce, do yer research.

Did I start rambling there?

I use Bridgestone SO3s I find them a good all rounder for the road. on track I have been using cut slicks, but that has been on my 911 turbo, and 928. I took the saff on track a few times but not for the last two years so I have not had a chance to really look at the handling (been concentrating on the engine). Thanks for the advice though I might try a set of Falkens, might suit the car.

oh and by the way on track means "Track Days" not trying to blag IMA racing driver.

My garage is in York,

and as for power hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm I know what this board is like so I would not like to speculate, remember its not PROVEN so I would have to say its quite a lot more than a standard one.

It is badged as a Carwise 600bhp plus spec. I would say its a shite site quicker than Karlos's though.

235/45/17 Dunlop DO1j/ Jaguar 10" Diff/ Zoo rear beam kit. This will give you grip.
What gearbox /Diff are you running, please dont say Standard or i will start laughing.
600bhp will also require a Tremec TKO gearbox or similar.

Sorry for slow reply Rod, been away from pc. Thanks for rear end advice, a call to Zoo is in order methinks.

Just for the record in case anyone was wondering (I doubt anyone is that interested), the engine was built by Carwise UK (me). The most important part of extracting power though, was carried out by The great man Karl Norris i.e. the headwork. Carwise has had a lot of heads done in the past, admittedly only about 40% of them Cosworth (I also do quite a few Nissans, RX7 s etc) but I have never seen heads like the ones Karl turns out. They should be on show instead of hidden inside an engine bay, but that is where they do their job so well. The engine is strong and smooth and it revs like nothing I have ever driven. This is down to the head and map. Big Respect mate you have done another great job. Karl does heads for most of the big power cars you hear of (not sure about yours though Rod) but alas being companies they rarely say who does their head work. Carwise UK builds engines, set ups etc etc, but ALL MY HEADWORK IS CARRIED OUT BY KARL. Also some mapping probs that need an engine designers expertise. I just wanted to clear this up as I didnt want to try and kid anyone I ported the head because I did not. All Carwise heads are prepared by NMS PERIOD.

Thanks folks and sorry to bang on.
