Default 2.0 TDDi mondeo problem?

I have a 2.0 TDDi mondeo 2001 and when driving it like just normally the temperature only rises to about 1/4 unless you really drive it hard it goes to the normal half way. I changed the thermostat as thought it could be fautly but hasnt fixed the problem. What else could this be?

Thanks

I've been trying to fix one all week and am totally lost as is ford technical!

so far i've fitted thermostat, cylinder head temperature senser & water pump. atm i'm waiting for a thermostaticly controlled valve that fits on the back of the water pump that we suspect may be faulty, but it's doubtful.

checked wiring from cylinder head temp senser to ecu and it's all fine.

have you noticed a drop in mpg?

does it drop back down to 1/4 after driving it hard, or does it stay at 1/2?

mine will stay on the big white mark at about 10-o-clock position, then after about 8 miles with go to just under have way when driving, as soon as revs drop/start driving sensibly/stop and leave at idle the gauge drops down to the 10-o-clock position, if i leave it at idle for twenty minutes approx it goes upto halfway and thats where it will stay, i've had it running at idle for about 4 hours and it won't go over halfway on the gauge.

p.s. mines a 04 tdci 130

had this problem on my 04 tdci changed stat, sensor in the head to no avail then found that the return feed on top of the thermastat housing wasnt working

on top of the thermastat housing on the tdci is a small plastic fitting has to pipes coming out of it 1 goes to the head the other goes to the expansion bottle in this fitting there is a small valve remove the fitting and clean can be a little fiddly to get of as it has a silly little circlip holding it on.

after id removed mine and cleaned temp gauge went bk to normal went bk up and sat in the middle at all times

hope this helps some of you!!

i dont see any problems there... diesels are cold running engines... i wouldnt expect the temp guage to go over half... we had a mk1 and a mk3 mondy diesel... and when driving they would only just be in the normal... and in heavy traffic or city it may go to just under half... i wouldnt be too concearned

I have a TDDi as well, this always goes smoothly to half way and sits there with no problems.

I dont know of this applies to the TDDi as well, but the TDCi has two stats.

There is about a 20 sec delay then you can download the PDF.
