My sisters boyfriend is interested in getting an Impreza
Told him ot get an Evo but he wants a blue Impreza (normal Turbo 2000 AWD model will do him, not really interested in the WRX/STi stuff - all he wants to do is change to the P1 type front bumper and rear wing, add a zorst and
dumpvalve
- tho he might lod in some nicer seats if poss)
So what should he be looking at spending on one, around S reg....
And what sort of running costs are likely?

He's looked in the motoring papers etc and the ones he's shown me are around the Ł5k mark - is that typical pricing or are they over the top?

An S reg UK2000 usually sells for around Ł5-6k, as for running costs the insurance on them can be quite steep (although this is less for a UK scoob), you'll get on average 20mpg with a UK scoob that can run on the lower RON petrol. Parts for most Jap cars are very high compared to Ford.

So whats piston 3 all about then Dee?
Me sis boyfriend ain't really a massive petrol head, and generally don't rag cars too much, but he does like the look of em (got good taste as I rate the early shape scoobs, not keen on the later two shapes much) and just wants it a little better than stock, hence the bumpers, wing, rims, zorst and
dumpvalve
(can you get chatter on these with a decent button filter? Cos if so gonna make him buy one so he can have chatter instead of dv
)
He says it has to be "Subaru Blue" and he wants gold rims
lol.....
he didn't really wanna spend much above Ł5k tbh, and is going for the uk turbo 2000 as it is only 220ish bhp so hoping the ins won't cain him too much - fooks sake, kid is younger than me (he's 20 lol)

for some reason no 3 piston goes fooked on the late 90's cars - dont know whether its a fault in the block causing it to knacker the piston or what, the earlier ones are ok, as are the later 2001 onwards models, around 96 to 2000 through are the ones u need to watch for, they dont even need the boost turning up to do them in, they just seem to loose compression and die on no 3

If your brother is only 20 he may be better going for a non turbo version such as a sport, a UK 2000 is still about group 16/17 insurance where as the sport is only group 12. At 20 he'll probably be quoted well into four figures for insurance on a turbo one.
As for the piston question, they melt, I do have some photos somewhere of my piston no.2 when it melted, yes, two. LOL
