or bin them and run it without the water. It makes no difference if you let it warm up and cool down properly...

I disagree. I definately wouldn't remove the water feeds.

I have a minty mint set in the garage I think, will have a look tomorrow and let you know.

This is an age old argument,...
But im with chritian...
If it aint broke, dont fix it

Theres no NEED to take the pipes off
Besides, the water cooled turbos have smaller oil jackets than their oil cooled brothers.
If you want to run without water pipes, then use a specific oil cooled turbo bearing housing is my advice.

As above.

I am with the idea that the S2 turbo was designed to run with water-cooling, so why take it off? If you have a cooling problem, you have a cooling problem, the answer isn't to mask it by making other changes, which may have other side-affects.

Thats rubbish...... The RS500's used to take the water pipes off when rallying as it woyld stress the cooling system and was 1 more place to leak from.

They were designed with a water jacket...but ran absolutely fine without..that goes for 99% of turbo's (roller bearings and varints excluded).

So back to my original point; if its goiing to cost the guy near on a 100 quid to get a set then why not just take them off? As (i'll say it again) if you warm it up and cool it down properly it'll be fine.

The purpose of water cooler turbos is not to cool the turbo but to try and keep the oil and water at similar temps..

Try running a roller bearing turbo without the coolent pipes it would last about 20 miles.

but my point was the turbo will be fine, not that the guy will be rallying....

If a turbo with water geed can be disconnected and be safely used for rallying then surely a road car will be fine with them removed.

Ford only put them on to regulate temps (not best for performance but good for turbo life)....however observing warm up and cool down precedures mean you can safely bin them.
