the AA bloke checked the relay the fuse box has melted a bit b4 where one of the fuses got hot apparantly the boxes in fiesta and escorts are notoriously terrible for loosening on vibration thus causing burning. the pump terminal under the seat was checked and theres power going to it so one can only assume the pumps mashed but ill know in the week as its at an auto electricians

Heard a lot of peoplesay Escorts and Fiesta's have issues with fuseboxes and injection relays but (*touches wood*) I've never had a problem. The injection relay is the same one that was in the car when I got it 11 years ago

I had the same problem with my FRST fuel pump. I traced the problem to the resister on the wiring just before the pump. I cut it off and connected the wire directly to the connector. No prblems since. Did this about 3 years ago now.

You cas see on the picture that the fuel pump wires have no longer the resister but instead are directly connected to the plug at the top.

thanks very much for that, i guess if i get same probs ill need to jack the car and empty the fuel tank i guess the hardest bit is getting underneath to uncrew the pump how difficult is it , is it just a matter of getting a jack and a phillips screwdriver?

before you take the tank off check that you have power g'oing to the connecter at the top of the tank under your back seat. If youve got power there then you know its something to do with either the resistor or the pump its self.

I used spade connectors.

yeh i had them do the work fitted a new block terminal and rewired an earth cleaned up the terminals etc, seemed to do the trick but it didnt work and broke down on me AGAIN 60 miles from home an AA charged me 95 quid coz i had wrong cover and auto electrician charged me 95 for the rewiring now I have to waitr till they get the car on the ramp so they can drop the tank coz apparantly u need 2 ft of clearance from the ground to get the tank out and i cant do this on jacks, maybe the uprated was too powerful and blew a wire off who knows or maybe after only a year the pumps packed up either way i wish they had built external pumps on these i know the petrol keeps em cool but...

the prob i had was whoever fitted the pump used metal crimped to hold the connectors but when mixed with petrol this causes a reaction which renders the wires useless, some ppl are saying that cuttin off the black connector and wiring directly has solved their issues, hope this helps.
