Default Can someone explain something to me about V8s?

I was just thinking today, that V8s are usually two banks of 4 cylinders with the one cam per head, right?

Well modern 4cyl engines are twin cam per head.... how come this doesn't get used for V8 heads? Would it be a nightmare to implement?

Or am I missing a very simple answer??

Most V8s are a cam in block OHV design from what I can tell.

Quad cams are around though.

I knew there would probably be some somewhere but they're not exactly mainstream are they? What's the reason for this?

Do the quad cams make mor epower in general?

Pure expense, reduce the number of cams lowers the cost. Only the expensive tuned V8's where people dont mind paying a bit extra get them usually.

i can only think of the audi series of v8's and the ford v8 from the mustang?

fords is probably the same design from the 1960's and the audi lump is quad cam.

Err, almost all modern PERFORMANCE V8s are quad cam.

Audi and Ford, the ones just mentioned, both are.

I think the V8s in the MG ZTs are twin cam, not quad cam.

Of course the engine probably isn't classed as modern

Hey I'm here to learn, what can I say.

Thanks for the info

Better start reading about engines, you seem to be a bit out of touch.
There are very few car manufacturers that DON'T make V8s

and people can wank off all they like about how many cams an engines got, it dont matter a shit, its how strong and powerful the fucker is for the money spent, and the pushrod single cam fuckers still pretty much rule over most stuff you can get on the market no matter how flashy it is.

A single cam V8 can make more power than quad cam V8, if it is tuned that way.
The reason why most newer engines in general are twin cam(4 cyl) or quad cam V8 is to do with VALVES.
The more valves you can get in the chamber the better the emissions and power can be made, two smaller inlet valves delivering a consequently higher port velocity than a single big one will produce more torque, and have better tractability.
With this in mind it is easier to arrange a seperate cam for each set of valves, due to space in the head design.
Of course some engine don't have cams at all, some have aspin valves are so are desmodromic drive, VERY VERY few though, never seen one just read about them.

Old late 60s, early 70s Mustangs will be either Cleaveland or Windsors. OHV, cam-in-block.

Not too sure about the big-block ones though......
