diffrences in silver top and black top,why do people seem to turbo the silver top, thanks

cheap and readily available you can pick a silver top up ready for a strip down for Ł100

main caps are stronger on the silver top block

Need a extra pulley added to the black top so the water pump turns the correct way

So after spending all that money on the cvh are you coming over to the darkside?

Both the black top and the silver top have different advantages/disadvantages so it is best to use a mix of parts from both.

are the valves the same in both engines?? does anyone know

the blacktop comes with better conrods which are allot lighter than the silver tops in turn revs better...so im told

im just about to turbo an ST170 engine as the head is a lot better than the silver top. plus i got the engine cheep

& fancy seing what it can do

it wouldnt matter about the rods,ill be going for steel items and forge pistons,thanks

I dont think so, I think there is a difference in the number of rings in the valve stems for the collets. IIRC there are 3 grooves in the earlier (silvertop?) valves and only one in the later ones.

However that could all be bollox so I'd wait and see if anyone tells me I'm wrong

I did have a silver top that i was going to to use to build my zetec turbo but then a black top come up cheap so bought that instead
