ok guys im on a small budget but i want my car to have more power

can any one recomend a few things that will improve power and performance without breaking the bank?

been thinking along the lines of kent cams ect would i be going in the right direction?

I would do exhaust and air filter first, as these will be needed anyway, then cam.

ive been told i cant upgrade the air filter as its the way the engine runs or somthing and will screw the seettings up? its an MFI 105 bhp thingywould a differnt panel filter make much differnce?

You were told a load of crap then!!
MFI stick a panel filter in.
Any car will benefit from better breathing, I had a K&N panel in my 4i, was a bit better midrange.
The system is very crude, well crap to be honest these days, but will not later the fuelling(AFR) at all, air speed causes depression which moves plate down allowing more fuel end of>

ideal so k n n panel filter in followed by a full oil change sump gasket change oil filter change fuel filter change then start upgrading cams exhaust ect?

I would do exhaust first, before cam.
I know when my dad used a Janspeed on his xr3(1980) it worked really well.

hi i had a mk 4 mfi the only way u can put a induction on is if you can get a a old volvo 2later the fuel metering is similar to an escort mfi. the case of the volvo metering unit under neath has a pipe outlet and it bolts straight on where the escort mfi one goes and its sounds really nice.4 branch manfold can out let more power but i think its better and cheaper just to put a 18 zetec in...hope that helps

the cheapest way too boost a xr3i mfi is a 25bhp nitro jet try and get 25 bhp any other way for 400 quid
