Why hold back - you never usually do,

 

cut the claws open with special sissors usually and crack the top/bottom open.

 

Just don't eat the DEAD MANS FINGERS, they are majorly poisenous, but usually removed prior to sale anyway.

for what you get out of a crab there not worth the trouble.. but yes crack the legs with a small hammer and the claw, chuck the body in the bin...

lol although youve eaten it already, best way to open and eat it is to smack it head first on a table or summin hard then pull its body(the bits with the legs and all) away from the shell,

if you like the insides you can eat pretty much everything inside except the gills, dont think there poisionous though lol just horrible and tough, id rather the toes and the little bits of meat in the legs though
