Changed Head Gasket - Still Boiling Over - EDIT NOW FIXED
Following on from previous post.....
(4x4 Cossie Engine)
Car was badly boiling over, so whipped the head off..... No signs of cracked block, damaged head, or failed head gasket. Changed head gasket and removed thermostat. Filled car with water, run engine and bled at thermostat point. Fans cut in and I thought prob solved, but the engine continued to get hotter and the fans kept cutting in latter and latter each time. The whole time the system was pressuring more and more and the expansion tank boiled its contents
again
Ive been given a few ideas tomorrow but could really appreciate any help on this, and has anyone come across this before?

air lock.......
and also on a 4x4 you must always run with a thermostat fitted it directs flow even when closed. unlike the 2wd which is a far more basic setup

you havent got the car jacked up at the front have you ????
Reason i ask is because if you have , air gets trapped at the back of the head and will always air lock until the car is sat level
I blew the headgasket on my escoss when i changed the rad because i had it jacked up at the front when i was testing everything before i put the bumper etc back on the car

Cheers guys, will inspect rad today and make sure water pump is working.
Paul - I was told its a good idea to raise the front of the car when bleeding up, helps the air get to the expansion tank? Is this wrong info?

AlexF -
Do you mean a cylinder leakage test? or pressurising the cooling system and check for leaks?
I dont think the cooling system has any leaks because it holds pressure until the saftey release on the expansion cap lets go.

CosKev3 - Already done headgasket pal, to try and solve this problem.
Alex - I think you maybe right, been bleeding it runing it for about 30mins and managed to get it to not boil over, but found the coolant hose to the back of the head to be leaking
Could it draw air in from there? Going to change this and try again.

have you replaced the expansion tank cap?
If the seal/relief valve has gone it will not hold pressure, unpressurised water boils at a cooler temperature than pressurised water, hence boiling over

the air gets to the expansion tank as hot air rises
I know you have fixed the car anyway but still felt i should reply
Your telling me, although im glad I changed it in some ways...One less job for the future and got to check block, head condition etc etc.
She now doest go above the halfway mark on the temp gauge.
As previous post all sorted now thanks to all for advice
