Default Why dont they make cars like they used to?

i was looking at an rs500 and was comparing the equivilant of it at the time it was made.

apart from scoobies and evo's but problem is these are rally cars so 4wd, skylines if you can stretch a bit but thats rich mn teritory again.

touring cars these days seem to based on seats, civics, etc.... am i correct in thinkng the rs500 and m3 days in touring cars were more faster??? or was that a different type of touring car championships?

i know the new bmw 3series have got their road going version of their 4cyl touring car, tech wise its probably way ahead of the cosi, m3s of back in the day but the reviews o that car are no way cosy killing.

cant they make a RAW turbo charged engine with a fair sized turbo in RWD for the poor man

it seems the rich boys are having all the fun while the poor have to keep moding cosworths, scoobs, evos, skylines to keep up.

im sure there are probably new gay laws to keep the cars a bit less raw but is there a reason that anyone knows of for sure??

its also partly due to the homologation rules changing, so that manufacturers dont need to sell a replica, just a similar version, if you know what i mean...

ERR, there WAY more cars like that these days than back then.

RS500 prices were similar, with inflation etc, as top Evos and Scoobys are today.

Mostly 4WD, but decent modern RWDs exist that are way faster than stock RS500s.

Most arnt or wernt officially sold in the UK though.

why is it that its always the same users talking down to other users.

i dont use this site for conflicts as thats for users like yourself who need some action in their lives, only asked a question.

stavros had some good points but if you could give a few details of RWD cars of today that equal todays cars that dont cost in excess of Ł1,000 just for an intercooler setup?

surely the intercoolers are not that different apart from the fixings.

but thanx for that porkie, rather than just giving examples just reply aggresively. i know you would never react to things like that in person

Eh? Whats a focus ST got to do with the fact most FMIC kits for decent cars cost about 400quid these days, inc loads of piping, rather than the 1000quid+ you was on about.

About the same as a ProAlloy RS500 one.

And a bit less than a Focus ST one.

Strange post!

Why does it have to be a RAW turbocharged RWD car to be fast?

Those cars in standard form are now slow in comparison to today's RWD sportscars etc...

Intercoolers?

looking through pf/ff mags i've seen intercoolers of good makes for over Ł800, its not 1k but not far of. that is the reason i didnt end up getting the new ST. blue fin costs around 550 for what seems to be a very slight increase in power.

my point was are cars becoming harder to get power out of without paying shit loads of moey for small gains

The point you're missing is that cars are starting with more power!

You can buy an Astra VXR which is obviously a GM take on the RS Turbo type of car, and it comes with 240bhp!

Well all the more reason to go Jap like I said. S14 or S15 are RWD 2litre turbo, better performance in every way than a stock RS500, and FMIC's and stuff cost between 350 and 500 quid generally

GTST Skylines are another obvious option seeing as you on about RWD.

very true, but in fairness I would expect that probably weighs more than an rs turbo.

think you may have lost the plot as your under the impression that whats fun to you is the same for everyone else.

ofcourse cars are fun to drive but the ones i've driven are too expensive for me.... 80k + so thats no good to me.

Made S14s till about 2001 and if not then an S15 then.

Or a R34GTT.

Or a JZX100 Chaser

Or a JZX110 Chaser

Or fuck knows how many other fast, reasonably priced, turbocharged, RWD cars.

Simple and cheap job to convert Scoobys to RWD if you wanted too.

And why RWD? Might wanna drive the tits off an Evo or whatever before you decide 4WD isnt what you want.

Not driven a 360CS, driven a standard one. Driven all the others. All cool as fook... but not as much fun as alot of cars I have driven!!!

have you driven them all? what made them fun to you? I found the Murci a bit too big to really throw around and have fun in on roads. DB9 was great and I had a mates Volante for the whole weekend... was it cool? yes... as fun as a Caterham?? FOOOOK no! I only had brief drive of F430... stunning! oh and as for the 360?? there is a red one parked outside my garage right now!!! sadly its not a spider!!!

If you want a cool road car and thrilling trackcar.... and one that I think is a the bottom of its depreciation curve and may even start to maybe increase in value slightly get a Mk1 996 GT3. A well used but not hammered one can be got for Ł30k... a future classic I think.

have to agree with the murci feeling big, have to admit i was a little scared to corner fast in it as im sure it can bite my head of.

db9 is my cousins but the rest belong to a friend.. lucky fuckers

i've driven all of the ones i mentioned never driven a caterham but would love to. trying to convince my mate to bring his bugatti EB110 and let me drive it

also driven a 550/575 and 575 super america, the one with the silly rear windscreen

I thought Porsches were "gay/bad image" on here and an Escort Cab was "the car to own" lol
