My FRST is jumping out of 5th gear any time the transmission is under load, it's ok if you feather the throttle but if you step on the go peddle it just pops out. Its ok in other gears just fifth has the issue. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with it apart from it being fucked just so I have an idea when I take it to get fixed.

Could be that the selector needs adjusting?

Maybe 5th gear is fucked?

I had a similar thing happen to me in one of my old XR2i's but it jumped out of reverse so I understand how annoying it is

 

5th gear synchro i would say, should be easy to fix tho as 5th gear is accesible with the box in situ

 

the bulk ring is worn and the little teeth on it have started to round.
ormaybe it just needs some adjusting but i reckon its the ring.
the selector it self will be fine as thats steel but the bulk ring is brass, well a mix but were call it brass.
also, get your self another screw/bolt that holds the 5th gear selector arm part number 6100288, your prob fock the torx head getting it undone, thats the normal thing anyway.
but as above, you can do it with the box in the car, just catch all the oil that drains, it sticks, its nasty and it fucking rank shit gearbox oil so dont get it on ya clothes,if ya do, bin them
