Default 4x4 cossie front wheel bearing dust seals...

Are they necessary

Tried fitting them yesterday along with new bearings, and they (the seals) simply won't go in. One is bent and now in the bin, the other, well, not sure whether to try or not.

More seriously, if they are necessary (as I suspect they are), does anyone know where I can get two of them without buying a full bearing kit ?

Any tips on fitting them most appreciated

Thank you

You can get them from Ford, as I had to get one. Can't remember how much it was, but I remember it was rather expensive for what it was. I’ve got a bearing installer kit, and used that to pull the seals into place. I used the old outer race, placed over the seal, and then pulled it in. Hope that helps.

So you can get the seals on their own
I'll call the local dealership now

If you come unstuck, I think I've got some new ones in the garage somewhere from my Escort Cossie. I'll have to have a dig around. Just let me know.

But I had a special insert turned to fit the Cossie wheel bearings spot on.

They're in the bin and gone to heaven now (the old bearing outer races)

Bought a fitting kit yesterday, should get it today, along with the new seals hopefully
