whats it for?

Listends to the "knock" of the engine.

Retards ingiton if it senses "knock".
( I cant remember what knock is- but is deemed to be BAD)

Can be affected by things around the engine bay.

On CVH can be affected by the fact its on a Rattly CVH.

On a CVH either use an S1 Ecu which doesn't have knock sensor input (or Cossie etc ) OR remove from engine- still attached to loom - wrap shitloads of bubble wrap round it and cable tie out the way safely to prevent it sensing knock. Must still be conected to loom.

Do you want to buy literally just the sensor, or are you after something that actually chats to the sensor too?

Bolted to the block is the normal place for them.

my subaru has one as standard, it retards the spark when it hears knock.

but the sensors play up so a lot of people have a second one with a led display so when it hits red back off.

you need to place it on the block away from other noises eg cams.

my scoobie one is under the intercooler

the knock sensor on a cossie is under the turbo at the bottom of the block
the cable runs round and connects next to where the cps connects

It detects a SPECIFIC frequency of KNOCK or pinking, THIS IS THE REASON IT NEEDS TO BE FITTED TO THE BLOCK.
