someone i know has just rebuilt his engine
injectors cost him Ł120 each
plus tappets and crap like that
it had burnt out a piston so a replacement pisiston plus a top end rebuild still cost him a good few quid

dojj, you sure thats a hdi?

the only hdi i know of which has had a serious problem was one which had bent con rods. suspected cause, being over-revved.

seen a dt chuck a rod out the side though.

low pressure pumps play up, but not severly, never seen anything else go wrong though myself, glow plug relays play up.

There isn't many cars that are 100% reliable, but a 306 hdi is a very good car with a excellent engine.

Hi mate, a chap from work has a 306dt same as me, and was gonna upgrade to the hdi as better fuel economy, but apparently they are prone to engine problems so he has stayed with the TD

just going on what he found out

Yes mate, where the wiring goes into the door, over time it brakes the insulation down and shorts out.

i own a 97 d turbo as my runaround, its REALLY reliable just check for everything electrical, central locking is pretty common to play up,
not a bad choice for a 1st car imo, very good fuel economy too

I have a 306 hdi dturbo on a V plate with 69k as my other car whilst the cossie is of the road. I have worked on loads of them and know that IF you can find a good one and look after it i will keep on going for miles but it took me 4-5 months to find a good one.

The coolant need changing every 2 years or head gasket problems will occur.
They dont run an intercooler and use oil coolers instead so check for signs off oil and water mixing in the header tank.
Electrics as mentioned but all Pug are known for this.
Auto wipers are known to go funny and a new wiper motor is usualy needed.
High and low presure pumps are known to just pack in as mentioned too.

They are good cars but just like any treat it like shit and it will fuk up on you but look after and you might just get away with it lol

Hope this helps

EDITED : If the one you are looking at is on 81k and is still on its orginal clutch it will probably be due one soon so check up on that and the timing belt should have done or will be due if not

cheers for the help!

That one had sold when i got there, it was scabby anhow.

When i get one im gonna get FULL service, change coolant, brake fluid and cambelt.

Is there any point in changing the power steering fluid??

Then off for the 130bhp remap! lol

Would not bother with the chip mate will probably just cause more problems in the long run imo.

If you look hard enough you will find a good one.

PSF should be ok all depends on the milage.

fuel pump (both)
driveshafts

thats about it really. Sell bits for them for a living, and thats the main areas of concern. no other major issues from what i remember, except the usual tre/brakes and wear and tear items

hed put a bleed valve, made an exhaust, and filter and a front mount cooler, was bloody quick for what it was.

ive heard 5th explodes, and has on several cars i no, requiring a new gear box.

and the fuel pumps, but that seems to be quite coomon issue on all deisels
