Default Lifted my carpet...

...and found rust. Bad or just normal, what do you think?

I think it could be a lot worse on a 19 year old motor.

Will get it sorted ASAP...

It doesnt look too bad, but your all forgetting once you've run a grinder over that the true extent of it will be revealed.

That rear floor pan will almost certainly have spread all over the inner sill aswell.

Very common places to go but its never quite as simple as it looks.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Work is in progress, left-side iner sill only needed welding in a small patch and the seat mounting has been replaced aswell. rear side inner sill looks ok. At the joint to the floorpan both inner sills will be treated with "Fertan" to prevent a comeback of the dreaded tin worm.

Moreover I've found lots of healthy metal right next to the bad spots so I think it will be fine.

On the rear outer sills it's only a bit of surface rust, passed my "screwdriver test" no problem.

But the next targets are rear chassis rails and rear wheel arches...

Sorry to have be negative but realistically once rust has set into a panel the only way you will ever get rid of it completely is to remove that whole panel, but obviously with careful repair work and preventative measures it will greatly prolong its comeback.

A large drum of waxoyl is what you need.....

Yep, that's gonna be messy...

However I'll treat all parts where there was something like surface rust with fertan first. That not only seals rust like waxoil but is supposed to stop the corrossion process in the metal.

Waxoyl or bitchamin is fine on brand new rust free panels but I also recommend used diesel engine oil

Doesnt smell great but I have found it stops rust and keeps it from spreading further. Keeps the metal nice and supple

That's not brilliant really to people that actually do bodywork rather than people that think it's ok as there's not a lot of rust that the eye can see!

I've seen alot worse and yours isn't too bad but don't think it's a quick fix...
