its the same box bar the LSD essentially, no difference in strength but an LSD box will always be nicer to drive.

safechave, are we talkiing gear ratios on s1 or s2 turbos? s1 may be the same as the xr3i but s2 is definatly mutch higher geared than the xr3i, i know cus i got both xr3i and rs turbo mk 4 as my daily drivers!!

i can say 100% on the Mk3's the 3i box has longer gears than the S1 box, im not as hot on the Mk4's but im sure the pattern follows.

S1: 4.27
mk3 XR3i: 4.29
S2: 3.82
mk4 XR3i: 3.84
Diesel and carb 1.6: 3.54
Some auto boxes: 3.33

The small difference 4.29 vs 4.27, and 3.84 vs 3.82 is down to small increase in final drive teeth size increase for the RST models.

So there we have it, a S2 does have shorter ratio's then a Mk4 3i

Chances are your 3i has had a deisel box in it!
