hi chaps has anybody got any info on changing the rachet to manual adjusting cable ? i have herd about this before and i think this will solve me problem,any ideas where to buy please

I changed my clutch ratchet recently. Very awkward job. You have to take the clutch and brake pedals off. It's an easy job but the location makes it a tw4t to do and took me 2 hours
I took the seat out to get in better. Dunno about the manual adjustment conversion though

ive just had my ratchet done started to do it myself but got stressed out after 30 mins
so payed a mechanic buddy 30 notes to do it its a right pig of a job . get a haynes manual of ebay that might help mine was only a fiver
Anybody attemtping this would do well to spend the extra time popping the dash out and removing the pedal box, definately not a fun job led acorss the car/out of the door working up above your head

thanks for your replies chaps the origanal problem was the rachet kept sliping so replaced with new one in the mean time found that nothing lined up from previus instalation ,sorted out parts put back together was allright for a couple of weeks then sliping proper crunching gears then rachet will work then slips
long and short of it some one said about a manual adjusting pedal thats what i was investigating but no luck so went down the mk5 pedal rout so far 90% perfect but pedal now sits slightly higher and slightly rubs on steering colum has anybody got the same problem or is there a solution ?

You can still get the mk 3 ones from ford and it sounds like you should have got one. Think mine was around Ł4 for ratchet and pawl
Pedal is perfect and is how it should be. Thing is, you won't want to change it now cos you know what a tw4t they are to do

Not got the box it came in, but i'm sure that code is very similar to the one thats on the box 
It's a shame that it goes now ... I wanted to get an uprated clutch later on, but would need the mk5 rachet. Guess the standard one will do for now, need the car everyday at the moment.

Mine is 6186200
The white one is for the Mk5 upgrade. Click the AP link I posted earlier in the thread and hover over the white quadrant photo. On there is tells you which is which:
White is post-1995 and more of a semi-circle shape
Black is pre-1995 and less than 1/2 circle.
According to AP site, the black one is 40mm and the white one is 55m radius.
The latest Mk5 Escort Quadrant (white) has an increased radius R55mm over the Pre 1995 Quadrant (black) R40mm.
Either way, you want a BLACK one if you're not doing the mod.

trust me.....they've given him a Mk4 white quadrant which is 50mm, a MK5 white quadrant is 58mm, but thats not what he has.

ignore the AP site that only applies to a Mk5 pedal.
And 58mm is the radius of the quadrant. And look at the picture, its a semi circle, where do you think the term "quadrant" was originally derived from
The colours only mean something on the vehicle it was originally made for.
You need a black 55mm quadrant for a Mk4

so if i got the suposed rachet to mach me s2 which should be the 55mm one so are you saying that they can sell you a smaller toothed rachet for a s2(black 1)?
No....your car should have a black 55mm quadrant.
They've sold you a white 50mm quadrant which is for a lesser car, say a 1.4 or similar which would have a smaller clutch.
6194025 should be what you need.

ah ha mr safechav me see your point but
if you have the same problem that i had with the rachet keeps fauling chuck that in the bin then go for the ap mk5 unit saves anymore problems a apart from high pedal lol
