Default so THATS why it drinks fuel!

after having a look at rolls sensors lastnight i thought i'd check mine...

well the ECU wiring is a mess down under the glovebox for starters but nevermind i thought i'd check the maf sensor wiring...

checked the 2 feeds from the ECU to the maf, both good @ 12v... sorted

checked the voltage at the multiplug end... nothing... nada... zip

car runs NO different with maf unplugged and no different with MAF not even piped in...

thats DEFINATELY throwing the ECU into LOS

didn't even bother checking anymore after that

so my choices... i can try n work out where the break in the wire is and repair it. (fookin hard!)

i can replace the loom completely (£££!)

or i can run my own cabling straight from the maf to the ECU and cut out the dead section of the existing loom (easier, but not best option)

wotya recon?

stu, i wish you had, as you might be able to to sort it... but it'd cost me a fortune in labout costs to check out the WHOLE loom (which ill need to get done really)

i recon completely replace the engine loom is the best idea, do you all agree?

i'm VERY open to constructive criticism, so please say if you think this is a waste of time and/or money

cut dead section out of loom and do it neatly with soilder heat shrink ect. Then when you get a chance do it properly with a replacement loom. Just make sure you do it properly and it will be fine.

spiky, but you need to use sum1 who knows what wire to connect to what other wire

remember that i've got the wrong engine fitted to my car, so some bits are 2.0 Sierra and some bits are 2.9 granada

johnnyB and jimboxr4x4 on here both got em done at topboss

and ginge, its like on a cossie where the engine loom is seperate to the main car loom... you have to splice about 5 or 6 wires into the existing loom for stuff like +12v, earths etc. etc. but thats about it...

madoldbugger would be able to get a loom made up, but we dont speak anymore... lol

i might just try n source a 24v loom myself somehow. was PF Nick after a loom aswell? i forget

Jim.... no offence mate but when will you learn that you get what you pay for

Sure you can pay less for parts, find bits second hand etc... but when it comes to having bits fitted or getting it tuned I'd rather save up and have peice of mind. Get it sorted once properly and you wont have to pay out when it all goes tits up.

jim you dick if you can actually test the wiring to see it's fubar'd then you must be able to put 2 and 2 together to cut it out and re splice it!!

check the runs of the loom, you'll prolly find it resting on the exhaust manifold

dan, you dont understand what i meant by that remark... i mean i dont know of any "professional" that can do it except for topboss... and i chose not to use them because from what ive seen of their work on my mates cars... i dont even want them anywhere near mine... (all personal opinion only)

Jim Just get a granny wiring diagram and get a good car electrian and ICE fitter and they will splice the Wiring correcly.

Thats what Topboss would do unless the wiring was total shit then they would change the loom.

The amount of cars that have had 24v fitted them self cannot fooking sort the wiring which have ended up at Topboss is unreal.

The funnys one were 2 guys from up north flat beded there 24v esate convertion to topboss to get it to start as they were at the end of there tether.

The funny thing the wiring was all correct, but it took Topboss 5 minus to tell what tey had done

The fuel lines were on the wrong way

O well

rob, i know i can cut it and splice it, and this is probably what i'll do as a TEMPORARY MEASURE

now i've got a car thats nice, i want to do everything PROPERLY, so i think replacing the whole loom is the best choice... also i dont know how many other bits of dodgy wiring are hiding behind there... the MAF and DLC are the only bits ive found sofar... probably more there somewhere! lol

PMSL thats exactly what I did with my XR2 TT conversion, at least I found it myself though

Jim why don't you just replace that wire yourself, it can't be that hard surely?

johnny, i was not impressed at all with the state of jimbo's wiring. if i chose not to use topboss, thats my choice

ok ive got the wiring diagrams here and the pinouts etc. and i'm currently going over them over and over till i've got everything comepletely 100% in my mind however i cant find any info anywhere on the conversion thats says "join this wire to that wire etc. etc." so i'll have to seek fil and stu's advice, saves me working something out myself that others have already done... no need in starting from scratch if i dont have to.

then i'm gonna see what i can do...

i still wanna buy a new loom tho

actually have ya asked gary , he is fooking good at all that stuff

Jim just wire a jumper in until you can get it done properly. When I say wire it in I mean with solder and heatshrink.

whitney, solder n heatshrink i can do...

but i was thinking, would it be better to use scotchlocks? (i personally think solder is better) as these are easily removeable etc.?

now ive got to work out which pins on the MAFF goto which pins on the ECU... i know that theyre the same colour either end (which helps a LOT!) but 2 of the MAFF wires are brown

wiring diagrams i assume show the connections i the correct order they plug in on the connector block? so i can work it out via the diagram, yeah?

oh, and where can i get some of the connector things that allow me to to put the wires im missing into the ECU multiplug? as i need to put the DLC connector on ideally... i assume i dont just ram the wire down the hole... lol and that it has a proper crimp on it?

whitneyd, most of them

but i can iscolate the 2 which i'm interested in as i have the ECU pinout diagram

the MAFF has 4 wires... 2 are different colurs, 2 are brown on the sensor they go:

COLOUR ONE
BROWN
BROWN
COLOUR TWO

on the diagram it shows the order as

COLOUR ONE
BROWN
BROWN
COLOUR TWO

so i'm putting 2 and 2 together and saying that the browns should go in the same order as shown on the diagram

however assumption is the mother of all fuckups

however on examination of this diagram, i think that it is POSSIBLE that i have mis-diagnosed my initial problem, as the wires i was seeing +12v from the ECU from are actually the signal feeds from the sensors... the MAF is powered/earthed externally from the power splice... whilst its un-likely that i was buzzing out the wrong wires, it its possible that my multimeter was playing tricks on me or something...

anyway ive just gone over this wiring diagram peice by peice and i'm comfortable with how it all wires in now so i should now be able to continuity check all the wires... just gotta get my mate to bring round his PROPER multimeter (a few K worth of equipment that can do anything) as mine's a halfrauds shitty one...

i deffo need to double check before i touch anything...
