take 8 pictures of the car
from every corner and every side.
this might give you an idea of which angle is best
might sound stupid, but if i wsa having the same issue I'd try that

asked my dad about this hes good with a camera,
Yes you need the sun behind you but even better wait for a nice day that is a bit overcast so there no direct sun light on the car this will stop the oposite afect of the problem you are having where there is to much sun and you get patches of shiny bits on the car where the sun is reflecting off the car and then you dont get any shadows too, just a nice clean picture.

my camera sets the brightness depending what i ut the little X in the middle of the pic over... if i point it at a dark thing it makes the pic really bright, if i point it over a light thing it makes it darker... see if it does it on yours (should be visible on the display if the brightness changes...)
also have you got the camera set to outdoor mode (whatever that is)

Best time of day for taken photos is 2 hours after sun up and 2 hours before sun down - the orange light is very good then. Set camera to 5.6 and it gives a crystal picture of central image as well as making the back-ground a bit out of focus, so looks ace.

Now try getting the sun off the bodywork, like may be lowering the camera so the suns reflection is where the window should be?
