EFI cps conversion off the seirra 1.8
I took a trip to the scrappy today and got myself the cambelt cover and pullys from a 1.8 sierra that has the cps and trigger wheel arrangement. I have been looking at the fittment of the pully and there is no way there is enough clearance for the pully to fit between the body and the end of the crank (the pully is to wide). Does anyone know what i need to get it fitted? Here is a pic of the pully i talking about. (not a pic of mine but the same pully and cam cover)
You need the front of the pulley turned down on a lathe ideally, so that the ridge left is the same as the side with the pick up if that makes sense. Will also need a a washer to go over the bit of crankshaft that will poke through when the pulley is fitted so you can tighten it properly. Also need to modify that timing belt cover, only need the lower half of it.
cheers dude iv got a m8 who will turn it down for free. Do you mean i need the 1.8 sierra alternator and bracket? i took the small pully, nut and spacer of the sierra alternator cuz i thought it would just be a swap to my s2 alternator
No probs safechav ill let ya know how it goes once iv tried it out. if it doesnt work ill have to get down to the scrappy asap to get the alternator before he crushes it.

I used the sierra alternator, but the pulley will fit the std one. You need the alternator bracket. You will need to machine the alternator bracket, to move the alternator over. There is a like a notch where the alternator mounts - it just needs grinding flush.
You will need to take the engine mount out completely to allow clearance, and slacken the cradle mounts a little. THe engine drops down and then u an get the pulley on. It's very tight. When u are jacking it back up, if it hits the chassis when u are jacking it up, then u really need someone to lever the engine to one side - this is why the box mounts are slackened.
Once the engine is level, there i about 5 mil clearance - with the pulley machined down!
I got my pulley balanced - it's very heavy.

I had one of these Sierra pulleys turned down and could not make it go on my car. It would not fit no matter what we tried - I seemed to have less clearance between the alternator pulley and chassis for some reason.
In the end I used a £20 36-1 trigger wheel and retained the original pulley and alternator. It's a bonus because it is much lighter and I can still change the belts without dropping the engine down.

Iv had a play around with the alternator today and i can say for shure that the alternator pully off the seirra fits on the standard rs turbo alternator. unfortunatly for me even im gonna have to get myself another alternator as my one is fooked so i have ordered the seirra one intead. Also iv been doing some mesurements and i recon that even with the pully machined down to its minimum possible im gonna struggle to get the clerance. What do you recon? why would this be? Does anyone know of another trigger pully that is thinner in width?

You'll probably find you have a bit of play in the mounts etc, by ulling the engine over with them all slackened off!
It is close, but it fits,
