Fiesta Cosworth suspension probs???
Dont know if anyone can help me on this but im building a rwd fiesta cosworth.
Ive made the mounts up for the front suspension cross member but ive got a problem that the cross member is to far forward and thats with the engine right up against the back of the fiesta bulk head.
The problem ive got is that with the cross member where it is means the front wheels are about 3inch too much forward in the arches, now i could get away with just putting the front wheels back 3" but that that would cause the bushes in the wish bone are under alot of pressure and if i ever wanted to do any work on the front suspension i would be pritty damn hard to get it all back together with it being under so much stress.
So what im hopeing is that someone might be able to help point in the right direction of where i might be able to get some new wish bones that will pull the front wheels back without putting stress on the bushes??
Maybe someone like zoo motorsport???
Sorry about the discription
In the pic i have put green rings around the bushes that im talking about

Hopefully someone can help me
Many thanks Ben

Best to cut the bulkhead and move the engine back Ben. Will improve the handling the further back you fit it
With the engine fitted where it is now have you got any room for intercooler/radiator ?
I can pop up and give you an unbiased view on it if you need it ?
EDTITED TO ADD: Just noticed that you've fitted the full floor
that makes it more difficult. Would be very expensive to get custom arms built and i'm sure you will have wheel/inner arch probs by the anti roll bar floor mounts. Also steering arms will be at a bad angle.

I did think about moving it back but the gearbox and prop mounts are pretty much bang on in the right places (plus it would mean alot more welding) and also i think it would give a far amount of problems with the interior wise?
The rad and intercooler wise there is room, i was going to use a diesel fiesta rad (been told they are alot thicker than standard petrol rads) as the cossie rad is to long and wont fit in between the headlights
Intercooler wise i was going to get a rs500 style one and put that in front of the rad then cut it into the bumper.
Yeah your more than welcome to come up and give me your views on it and where you think i could improve things
What i was hopeing was that i could maybe get some wishbones made with rose joints instead of the rubber bushes???

Would it sound silly if i mounted the engine on its own mounts instead if it being on the cross member then move the cross member back 3inches??
There looks like there shouldnt be any problems with the wheel/inner arch as im going to mount the anti roll bar into the floor its self
Plus im only thinking of running escort cossie rims

i think that would be the best way
you don't really want to mess too much with the steering geometry and it's very easy to mount the engine directly to the chassis rails. you will need to do something with the sump though, as it normally sits behind the x-member

Luckly a i know a chap who can weld alloy so the sump shouldnt be much of a problem, may have to change the oil pick up pipe? (never had the sump of my cossie lump)
thought i'd posted last night? weird. i'll have to type it again now.
oil surge can be controlled by baffles or gates in the sump.
there have been a few threads on here about people modifying sumps for better oil control. the std 2wd sump has some plates in it to try and control oil surge, but they are not very effective in cornering. most people also 'big wing' the sump - ie. extend the sides of the pan to give more capacity.

I was lucky that the engine i have came with a big wing sump
So with putting gates and baffles in the sump it slows the flow oil (in the sump) down whilst cornering etc?
Cheers for your help
