Right, the 3i kept blowing the oil cap off the rocker cover. I put it down to the fact its a bufty cover and probably a shite fit. Then, I noticed a vac hose had collapsed and this was causing my stalling. Sorted this on sat, thought that might stop the cap coming off but no........... i didnt. It popped off again tonight so I decided to put my crankcase breather on from my XR2.

I blocked off the breather hose from the metering unit end and put the filter on the top of the rocker cover and guess what.............. its smoking from the breather, not to heavy, but noticable


Looks like a rebuild then eh??

 

Phil, put some sellotape over the cap & onto the rocker cover

 

Surely you mean electrical tape over the spout them belt the cap down on it, like I already have done

 

Could it be time for a new car Phil? My pug goodwood REALLY cheap maybe?

my mate sellotaped his cap on................ then blew the sump gasket!!

then it was rebuild time!!

 

smoking from breather doesnt mean its knacked. I know a few engines that do it - my old one used to. They do breathe more heavily with worn bores, but if its not smoking out the back its fine. Also make sure its not too full. Make the cap a tight fit. I used the "rag" mod

 

Ahh yes 'the ol rag mod'! Tried & tested over generations Phil, just use Sue's saxo, it's probably quicker anyway

 

Yeah, thats gettin a little tired now tho and it needs more umphh. Told her I am gonna scource her a VTS lump for it

 

My old xr3i use to do that breather pipes blocked.take em off and use an airline to clean them out

 

And she's fine with you messin with her car after what you've done to yours?

 

She knows I can work wonders with my hands matey

Tell her that i can n all hands, fingers, knees & toes knees & toes

 

do what less says... its SOOOO common on XR3is for the other breather pipes to get clogged up

 

my old shed of a 1.6gl was doing this but also was smoking like a trooper did the valve stem seals didnt happen again. hth
