ok, i was under the impresison that BMW did not have any production turbocharged petrol cars, not since the old 2002.
now, are the new models turbocharged? i keep seeing references to 3.0 TwinTurbos, but im not sure if theyre refering to petrol or deisel motors?

Read the first post.
Jim was wondering if BMW are producing Turbo Petrol engined cars after hearing 3 litre twin turbos mentioned but was unsure if they were petrol or diesel varients.

335i - 3.0 litre with twin IHI turbos - 306bhp - turbos spool up very quick
0-100 in 12.8 seconds

Had a test drive in one a few weeks back ( at the local dealer launch weekend) and they are very impressive for a std car. Sound a fair bit rortier than the old E46 330i ( use the same block ...not the newer magnesium type block )
Don't know how much tuning potential there will be in them but I've heard 370/380 might be on the cards.
Trying out the new Cooper S next weekend
Cheers

and if it gets to 100 in 12.8, that means it takes a further 1.2s to do just 4mph more
it will blantantly get into the 13's bmw always quote there figures slower thatn what they are
they quote 0-60 in 6 sec for the e36 m3 3.0 280bhp
but i know of m3 3.0 doin 13.5's easily

Remember it weighs probably a fair bit more thatn your estate too - somewhere around 1570kilos or a bit more. What's your estate - 1300 kilos?
I've driven one on the road ( albeit only a test demo with a salesman in the car ) but it did feel pretty quick for a standard car.
As for the extra 1.2seconds to do 1/4 over 100, I'll have a look and see what speed they had to make a gearchange.
Cheers
The new twin turbo was on 5th gear.
The fat boy (with the hair) said it was very good performance but dull to look at and interior was bland. I would agree. Said that its m3/5 performance for 20K less !

The "ti" moniker appeared in the mid 60s and stood for "Touring Internationale" - not to be confused with the Touring models (estate versions that came later ) . First seen on carbed BMWs and then they did the 2002tii which was injection as well.
I think it's supposed to be a link back to the small 3-series predecessors
