can anyone help me. the engine has just been rebuilt, 1.8 zetec bottom end. its fine when u 1st start it but when it gets warm it starts to backfire

i have drove the car and it only happens once warm and as it is coming on boost,

Could possibly be distributor, mine did the exact same thing, put a new dizzy on and its been fine!

Could check usual things like plugs, leads, coil etc...

As above 99% sure its your dizzy mate.

Source a new one and let us know how you get on.

Could be a few other things but pretty sure its that.

Could be your dizzy as advised. The heat can affect the sensor causing the signal to break down.

well personnaly i would have thought it was a sensor!

make sure uve got the correct plug on right at the back of the inlet manifold!!!

when on boost it can be the charge air sensor
also there is a temp sensor as well think it either he brwon one or the yellow one!

I can almost guarantee it won't be any of them.....distributor as everyone else has said!

A dead give away is the rev counter going tits when it back fires

hmm he doesn't say owt about the rev counter going funny?
just says backifiring when warm and on boost

coule even be blowing out spark when boosting try checking t he sparkplug gap!

think i mite ave found out the problem............

was drivin the car earlier, 1st time in 2 years (oh it felt good to be bk) and the car lost all power, lights etc. fukin alternator belt broke . there i am stuck on the dual carridgeway, pitch black wiv no lights or hazard lights, i was shitin myself. anyway my mate came to my rescue wiv a new belt and the back firin seems to ave stoped, will c if it does it tomorrow wen i take it for a spin...........

I take it you remember what that red light that was glowing the whole time is for now then

But the light was only on once the belt had snapped then minutes later the engine cut out, so was only glowing for minutes, yet its been backfiring for days

guna change the plugs and leads on the wk end and c if that sorts it.

You say coming on boost? It could well be a fuel enrichment problem.
