Make sure the petrol tank is full. You can drain the other fluids, but if you're only storing it for the winter, you may not want to do this. If it's not going to be started, take the battery off, and keep it in the warm, inside you house

Chock the wheels, don't put the handbrake on.

If it's easy to do so, turn it over every fortnight for 15mins.

When the car isn't moving (therefore the petrol is still in the tank and not being sloshed about) the fumes corrode the inside of the tank. If it's full, it's all liquid and no fumes, hence no corrosion

There are also additives you can buy for the fuel that 'keep it good' whilst in storage.

Default keeping car stored over the winter????

Never heard of filling the petrol tank up! Just make sure you have additives so the petrol does not seperate.

Things I would recommend is listed below although I'm sure people have other tricks. This is only for short term storage ie over winter

1) Petrol additives
2) Leave the hand brake off
3) Over pressure the tyres to stop any flat spots
4) Ideally use a carcoon
5) Start every six to eight weeks

Just because you haven't heard of it does not make it incorrect

Fuel vapour is corrosive when it does not move for long periods of time - the full tank means it's a liquid and no vapour.

at the risk of sounding dim, my petrol tank is rarely full, and i'd say it has rarely been totally full for the past 16 years, and it's still sound, not doubting just confused.
i suppose if he tank was full there'd be no air in the tank, therefore water vapour couldn't condense and send the petrol wappy.
my head hurts, to be safe i'll pack my tank with waxoil.

If the car's being used it doesn't matter - the motion of driving disturbs the fuel in the tank enough so there's not a problem. It only becomes a problem when it's left to stand for long periods of time with no movement.

What additives are available to counter the issue of having a half empty tank whilst in storage? Any available at Halfords for example?

Get a quality breathable outdoor cover. My cover was from Specialised Car Covers and is an indoor tailored one, buit they do make outdoor ones as well. Not cheap, mine was Ł200 8 years ago but I use mine for summer only. My car is in a CarCoon now. Set of steelies on, brick either side of one rear wheel, no handbrake on, rear windows open for ventilation. Forget about her for best part of 6 months !!!

Prwoodford - i believe Redex make a suitable product.

As MrS1 said above, Specialised Car Covers make really good quality covers, as do Hamilton Classic

i wouldn.t chock the wheels or overinflate them, best thing to do is get the car off the floor all together and stand on axle stands.
