right then, I have a rst gear box in my shed. how do I find out if its any good? It seemed ok when it came out of a mates smashed up car but dont wanna sell a duffer.

any way to check now its out of car?

No real way Im afraid. That's why they don't make much money that way. They are really only any good as a basis for rebuild.

I have bought them for sub £50 in that state, infact I got given an RST 'box last week for nowt.

 

heres one then.

just took my turbs to its mot,this is the first time ive driven it proper,and when selecting fith gear it went into the gate ,but revved like it was in neutral,its miffed me,wheres my fith gear gone,?

having never driven the car out of third at any-one time due to the rebuild project ive been doing,to it,

the previous owner has assured me a new box and clutch(to which i must admit i have the receipts for) were fitted prior to it being laid up ,and then sold to me,

wot now????

you can never tell until on the car. and again depends on ya what bhp/tq you got too if itll be any good. ive been a coooooooont for buying 2nd hand gearboxes. my own fault but it was a cheap option. i went through 5 in 2yrs 2nd hand cause i didnt go for a new one or a bernie box. i did get a new one but i snapped the reverse light switch and it pissed gearbox oil and died after 74miles....dont ever speak to me about that i wasn't a happy bunny

but saying that..i got one for £49 on fleabay and its still doing well (fingercrossed) yr and half on after being in a xr2i now in a 200bhp 220lb/tq S2

if your going to sell it just say it was fine b4 in the car but buy at ya own risk etc...just to cover ya arse
