Default Zetec Turbo in S1

Hi,

Thinking about building a full zetec turbo using a 2.0 16v lump, probably from a mondeo with T3 turbo from my car to fit in to my Escort RS Turbo Series 1.

I think I'm just about up to date on how to build the engine itself but I'm hoping you guys can help me out with the other stuff.

Does anyone know what gearbox and clutch should be used> can the engine go straight onto a S1 gearbox?

Is there any issues with physically fitting the engine in the bay?

What management is best to use? I hear FRST's the best, does this go straight onto the S1?

Also I'd be really interested in hearing from people who have built these or drive a car with one of these engines. How do you find they drive compared to the cvh turbo??

Currently running original cvh with 190bhp and 189lb/ft torque but want to go faster!!

Thanks for any help, it'll be appreciated.

CheeRS,

Luke

Awright fella,

might want to try home build on a 1.8 first to see if you like it. you may prefere the specced cvh (its possible)

You can have the pistons machined to drop the comp ratio, use a hybrid t34 or saphy T3 hybrid with OFAB (3 bar map) management out the fiest turbo as its boost aware.

If you have cash to splash then go for the 2.0, the ZT rods are pretty good but you might want steels if going mentall, ten you might want agter market low comp pistons. calibra turno pistons will do the job just as good and give a decent CR also, i think i slight overbore is needed but someone can will be able to tell you exactly what.

check out fiesta turbo .com, they have a cracking guide to it

the block needs to be rebored to around 87mm ,this gives you 2.1cc if useing calibre turbo pistons

Standard bore is 84.8mm and calibra is 86mm giving 2045cc, but it's often referred as 2.1L as it sounds better.

Remember that the Eagle rods + JE pistons are really cheap from US.

2.1cc is not really that much.....

Thanks for your responsesguys,

Yeah been looking into doing the conversion and it looks way easier to build a 1.8 zetec turbo, just not sure its going to have the potential I want. . I'm aiming to get a smoother more drivable engine but with up to 250 reliable bhp! . also I've seen people using FRST and cosworth management not sure whats best.

Does anyone drive a car with a 1.8 zetec turbo, so they can tell me what it drives and performs like in comparison to a decent spec cvh??

CheeRS!

mine was 1800 zetec turbo and was fantastic to drive, plenty low down and boosted well, not too aggressive

250bhp is very possible on an 1800

just so happens my complete engine and management are on ebay
