Only asking cos i built one the old school way of finding the highest point on piston 1. I then put top pulley to TDC and fitted cam belt with them both ligned up. fires lovely but theres just a slight catch i think of the valve catching the piston.

How did you find where it was at the top?

The old skool way would be the DTi that alex mentioned.

Basically my mechanic friend was with me and showed me how to do it. We turned the crank until piston 1 stopped. It was the mid point between getting to the top and dropping down again.(at the very top)

is this right???

also how do i determin the cam shaft istdc. I been told you can check with a screw driver in spark plug 1.

is this right???

thanks

What you did was have them ROUGHLY at top dead centre, you will never get it exactly accurate without the dial guage mate.
