running nitrous on a stage 3 cosworth engine?
When using nitrous on a stage 3 engine should it be direct port, or can it still be done with the one in the air inlet pipe?
whats safe to run? and would people reccomend a maximiser?
And is there anything else that should be takern into consideration other than engine/ gearbox condition?
Im new to this so be nice

Fuel pump is the BIGGEST problem mate, even more so than engine condition!
If you havent got an 044 on there dont even bother thinking about nitrous IMHO, the standard pump just cant hack stage 3 power + nitrous after its 10 years old or more.
Single injector would be my preference for a small dose, but there are pros and cons to both single and direct port.
A maximiser is always a good idea if you have a wizards of nos kit, if you have any other make kit though do NOT run one as you will knacker the solenoids.
As for "what can you run" the main thing determining that if you know what you are doing is spark strength.
There are wires on the L8 ecu you can ground to take timing out of it, so Det shouldnt be an issue even if you are putting 100bhp or more into it if you know what you are doing.

Clutch i was told is a paddle one, engine was rebuilt by Jamsport for the previous owner around 1200 miles ago, so just ran in really. It is a standard pump at the moment, so i will look into a 044 item.
It is a wizzards of nos kit, so a maximiser should be on my list then.
Its only on L1 (2wd) at the moment, although im wanting to upgrade so i can run closed loop.
I was thinking about wanting to run around 50 on the nitrous, but as always research for future upgrades, and 100 sounds good.
Cheers for the info

Im 99% sure that the L6 also has the same retard wires as the L8 anyway.
Stu will be able to confirm.
Your chip mapper will have set what they do though potentially it may not be the same amount of retard as standard anymore!

Oh dear, cant you?
Christ, i must have got very lucky on all the single port nitrous jobs ive done then, some of which have added approaching 100% of the engines power

And is even distribution absolutely critical on a 50-100bhp shot on a very strong engine like the YB?
What do you think will happen if the distribution is:
cylinder 1: 10bhp
cylinder 2: 15bhp
cylinder 3: 15bhp
cylinder 4: 10bhp
If you are commenting on why he must put a moderate shot in so as he gets even distribution at least tell the lad why that is so vital?
Personally i would be more worried about avoiding reversion on a shot like that than i would on even distribution

My experience does NOT support your claim.
PS
For example ive nitroused the same engine on both setups, and the single port gave a better increase in power for the same size jets!
And there are also more points of failure, and excessive volume of pipework too.
It is NOT the case of one is always better than the other, each has its own merits.

I would 100% recommend the maximizer, the best controller i've ever used for nitrous tuning. I you haven't yet brought a kit i'm offering a Free bottle fill with every WON kit we supply. Call if you need anymore details.
BTT for reality so he can explain what he means about it being better
Main thing to cover would by why you think the reversion is going to cause less problems than the slight bit of extra phase change you get on the single injector of course as thats the key difference here between the two choices
Really interested to here input from people, especially if you hAve a lot of experience of nitrous as not many of us on here do

i keep my opinions to myself and let track results talk for my work. cant beat time slips for cutting out the rubbish.
IMO EscortMK6 will be fine on a single nitrous/fuel injector and once stepping up IF there is ever the need there will be other things more important to upgrade before a real benefit is gained.

Hopefully when he comes back on he can fill us in with some details of why direct port is better on a small shot, you migt be right and its just about the pub

Or he might feel that from a technical point of view its better on a small shot where you have no risk of fuel dropout and where distribution isnt very vital, and why the reversion you get on direct port which leads to a drop in the VE of the engine is something he feels doesnt matter and he knows some reason i dont why DP works better in all cases etc
Good reading as ever Chip - just got my bottle filled at Interpro - £12 per kg!!!!
Time for a bloody big tank of the stuff in my garage I think....
Unless Reality is Trevor at WON in disguise I think I'd run with Chip's knowledge and experience on this one.
I personally will be using single point injection...

wow, thanks for the extra info, im glad single ports gonna bee good, saves removing the inlet manifold
I've allready got the kit danny, do you do the maximisers though?
i was going to fit it on my v6 metro, but i think itll be more fun on the saph
