the story.
always wanted anything Cossie since I can remember, and when Barclays said "here Lee, here's 10 grand" (loan
) I couldnt believe it. (My credit rating is so bad, I cant pay with money
)
so, not enough for an Esc Cos and have money left over for emergencies/mods, so it was a 3 door or Saff. As I have a nipper, and the car was gonna be used semi regularly invovling being parked at work sometime, I chose the Saff option.
so the hunt began, and I bought the first sodding one I looked at. TWAT
it was advertised with paddle clutch, gpA gasket, rebuild 15k ago etc etc etc. The bloke was a lying cunt, even though the engine sounded sweet as a nut, with just a bit of blue on over run, but as I had 10, and it was a 4k car, I had 6k in reserve for a turbo or whatever.
On its plus side, it had Samco's, 500 coller, Pace rad....all the right bits.
well, a week later, I took it to my trusted friend and local Cossie specialist, G Sport. said it sounded good, so I left it there for usual stage 3 work.
upon removing the head, it emerged the bottom end was well and truly SHAGGED
, no gpA gasket, the coolant was neat antifreeze, the oil pick up pipe was blocked with metal fillings!!!!!!!!, the sump had no gasket, it had no paddle clutch.........and thats only some of the problems.
so its now a 4k rebuild to a very reliable st3, if only TNT could find the pistons and rods they have lost
why didnt I just buy an M3 EVO

bad news mate.
i know how you feel though, i've been tucked right up on the 200SX i bought.
the previous owner had bodged the turbo on with some exhaust paste and by the time i'd driven it 200 miles home, it was fooked. also the bottom end has a dead piston ring in so i've pulled the engine out for a re-build

Sorry to hear that mate.
I was in a similar boat. Had wanted a cossie since they first came out and finally had the money to go looking. Saw one which was nice but not quite right. Second bloke didnt turn up to meet me. Third was shagged completey which I couldnt tell from the pics and fourth was spot on. Slight bit of rust on the arch but mechanically seems sound so got that one.
On the plus side, at least you are learning loads about the cossie engine.

where did you get it from mate as that may be the one I looked at, was it Newcastle?
If so I can tell you a little bit and why I didnt get it. The plate does look familar from my HPI check.

Is it flint grey with standard wheels, lowered, 4" exhaust and Stage 1? I know there are probably loads with that description but the plate looks familar. I saw this one in late May. Did it change owners around then with the last owner?

The amount of money wasted on these cars that we love is scary really.
And the thing is you know that its not gonna be the end of the spendin either!!At least you didnt turbo the zetec in the estate, that would have been a bad move. (and a very costly one!)
Hope you get it sorted matey.
Bad luck mate
Still, when it's all sorted out and you'll have freshly rebuilt stage 3 cossie.
Come back from a blast up the local ring road and I bet you still won't say you wish you bought an M3

Very Sad story, even sadder is the fact that this is not an isolated incident, i hear this story on a daily basis.. Think yourself slightly luckier since you have available money to rectify it..
I have more than a few customers who had only enough to buy one, it blew up and is either unrepaired still or sold at a massive loss....

thats the single reason I bought a 4k saff and not a ropey Esc Cos at 10k Stu
doesnt bear thinking about spunking the entire 10k on a car that might have gone the same way. It'd srill be in the garage untouched now

Very sad indeed, I feel for you Lee, having had my cossie off the road for months due to a decreased salary and other priorities, I know how you feel
.
Unfortunately, we hear mostly about the bad stories, there must be some good ones still
. Surely....
Get it fixed, get it on the road and you will soon forget about the bad times

i know this Ł10 on engines at the moment
JUST HAD THE LATEST ONE 1000 MILES TO RUN IN (STILL DOING)
THEN GETTING IT MAPPED BY ARMED (I THINK A LOT OF PEPOLE SKIP THIS !!!!!!!!!)
4000 DONE BEFORE
AND THE SAFF NOW NEEDS DOING
BUT THE SAFF WILL JUST COST Ł1K AS THE ENGINE BUILDER IS GOOD AS GOLD TO ME NOW AS IT WILL BE JUST STANDARD
AND WILL BE 100% AS THIS ENGINE IS AT THE MOMENT

I never went down the cossie route for the same reason, Iv blew my engine up last month after 106,000 / 88,000 done by me.
I managed to get a second hand engine off someone on here that had all the receipts for the work done in the previous 6 months and with 285cams for Ł400.00.
This was because it is a dohc 8v 2.0 but mine does have a TT conversioin on it which pulls a half respectable 200 horses
.
At least these engine are two a penny, i feel for you and this is what i have now

Yes but if mine goes wrong it dont cost Ł3000 for a rebuild
.
Infact when neils went it cost him Ł25.00 and still has the engine in 3 years later running about 190 bhp.

every fookin engine can go wrong mate; my buddy (who own's an Ascona A) replaced the original 1.2 engine with a Calibra 2.0 16V engine.
cars only coming out for shows, meetings and concours.
last weekend we went to a meeting in Germany and when arriving at home we
noticed his waterpump blowed.
his brother drives a E30 M3 which has problems all around the clock, so don't worry and always look on the bright side of life
