Default Cutting out and backfiring!!!

Hi all, I own a S2 Escort RS turbo and at the mo I'm after some advice.
Has anyone had this problem;

After 5-10 mins of driving my car will on the odd occasion completely cut out as if I've turned the ignition off (I haven't!) and its happening more often. It sometimes will start back up ok, while other times it will be harder to get started! Could it be the coil, fuel pump, loose earth???

It has also developed a backfire which again isn't constant!

(nb. it doesn't have a dumpvalve, has stage one chip, full scorpian, k&n, uprated actuator)

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

CheeRS

Default re backfire

Hi mate, sounds exactly like a problem I had, sumtimes would cut out for a few seconds then carry on for ages ok. Then would cut out for a while and called the AA when they arrived of course it started... Got new distributor, all perfect now... Good luck

Before i even read anything i would of said distributor also.

Unlikely to be a fuel pump relay because of the nature of how they work.

My money is on the distirbutor........when it cuts out i bet the rev counter drops to 0 momentarily yeah?

If its the dizzy causing the problem it is more likely to be the hall effect sensor inside, not the cap/arm, but by all means try the cheaper items first

Had this and it turned out to be a faulty ECU

Yeah the rev counter does drop to 0! I think I'll try distributor first and go from there.

I could almost guarantee its your dizzy, as long as you are 100% its not hitting the boost limiter
