Default Which Tracking Device ?

Any one recommend any Trackers ? I used to have 1 on a Saff years ago, learnt my lesson after having a 3 door nicked before, just wondered what the best device was now.

I just had one fitted. The insurance company gave me a list of approved ones and I have had a Trackstar Plus fitted.

Just had a MetaTrak system fitted to my EsCos, and that is the dog's!!

Benefits are, no annual sunscriptions, and you can re-fit the system to a different car if you ever sell your vehicle.

Basically works off a SIM card. You can text your car at anytime, your car texts straight back giving you exact co-ordinates, battery voltage, speed (if your car is moving) etc etc.

If someone did get past the immobilisers, you could text your car to tell it to totally immobilise everything in the vehicle. Then, the next time the ignition is switched off, it simply will not start again until you tell it to do so via another text. You also have a hidden microphone in the vehicle, so you listen to the thieves every word as they are driving the car away.

This is the top tracking system out there at the mo, and it cost me Ł600 fitted, which sounds alot to be honest, but when you consider that a Tracker Horizon is Ł449 fitted plus an annual subscription of Ł150 it certainly is good value.

Also has other benefits. You can set a certain speed limit on the system (again via text) so if someone ever borrowed your car, the second they went over the pre-determined limit, the car would text you immediately.

My car was in a local garage on Thurs for fuse-box problems, and the moment the guy dis-connected the battery, my car texted me !!

Top system in my opinion.

I'm with Direct Line, and it is on their list of insurance approved tracking systems.

The whole point of having the hidden microphone is to listen in and hopefully you'll over-hear some interseting information which will help you get your car back even quicker, names, roads, place names etc etc.

Not that you need the microphone at all, because your car will give you constant co-ordinates via your mobile, and if you go onto the meta trak web-site and punch in the co-ordinates, it'll give you a map pin-pointing the exact location of your car at any given time.

Top top system.

GPA800

Using GSM/GPS technology, the insurance approved system will locate the vehicle if it is stolen.

The Tracker Horizon is a good system, but there are down-sides to it :

Ł149 a year, every year
You can't move it from vehicle to vehicle
The only time you'll ever know if it's working properly is if your car gets stolen (You can't phone Tracker HQ to check if your system is working correctly)
