Default New shape Zetec-s heading for throttle bodies

Hi pretty new to the forum so apologies if this is not quite the right section

At the moment i have a 2005 mk6 fiesta zetec-s and so far having owned the car two months ni have been slowly buying parts that i think i will need to turn it into a bit of a trackday weapon (no laughing)

so far it has had wheels (not essential but nice to have)

18x7.5 Kei Racing Force 10's with avon ZZ-3 215/35zr18

Kw variant 1's
and mondeo mk3 300mm brake conversion using ST170 discs

as i am quite keen to take it to the track i am looking inot buying a quaiffe ATB diff and poly bushes + front and rear upper strut braces

has anybody fitted a quaiffe atb diff to the IB5 gearbox? and if so what sort of money is involved and what is your opinion of it?

as this will hopefully have the handling side of things nicely sorted i am looking for more power (aren't we all) and have been looking into putting throttle bodies on the car. so far i have only seen these kind of conversions on kitcars made by shawspeed and so with a little research through them i have found that in order to run their management system i would need to keep the original ecu in the car to run stuff like the windows and lights etc and use their omex 600 kit to run the engine alone

this was fine until i found that ford where making a VCT head for the 1.6 in the form of the ti-vct used on the new shape focus and liking the idea of having torque throughout the rev range does appeal to me as i don't want to lose the driveability of the car so have been looking into doing this. however therein lies the problem omex as far as i understand cannot control the VCT system and the only one i think might be able to is the autronic SM4 but it would require a custom made loom which sounds pretty pricey

basically if anyone has any pointers or advice to say on this could you please let me know as although this will take a while for me to acquire all the relevant parts i'd like to start now rather than leave it much longer i am very much a newb when it comes to more in depth engine work etc so if you've got any advice please give it

thanks
Lewis

look on the fiestastoc as one of their owners are getting one fitted soon.

may aswell go for an st engine conversion as the fly by wire throttle is easier to use less faffin than tb's imho

top car tho

i'm kinda looking to stick to the 1600 as it's shockingly tunable.. (210bhp on tb's is what shawspeed get out of them) also i couldn't quite afford the ST at the time so i thought i might as well do something a little different

also i'm already on fiestastoc and UKFN and ZSOC too many damn forums

the fly by wire throttle has been a right pain in the **** as it has been the main reason i can't just switch to omex now and ignore the tb's for now also having had it for 2 weeks i was getting EAC fail flashing on the dash... change of the pedal and update of the software and all is good again but unfortunately lacking in power

cheers for the comments
wheels where bought from redline racing in middlesborough for £500 without tyres

Not sure about the Mk6 shape gearbox but putting a Quaife ATB into a Mk5 IB5 has been done. You are look at roughly 550 for the ATB and probably 300 for fitting.

Does the Mk6 Zetec-S not have the duratec 1.6 lump? Or is it a rebagded zetec-se?

rebadged zetec-se and yes it is the same gearbox by all accounts yeah i've managed to get a good price for the diff but now need to save for it and have been offered £150 by a local garage to fit it (not confident with gearboxes even if i have stripped them down @ BMW group academy)

oh and as far as i know there are only two sizes of duratec engine the 2 litre (as used in the ST) and the 2.3 litre (as used in the focus SVT)

You could keep your eye out on the rally websites, like usedrallyspares for a box. Are you planning on putting straight cut gears in at all? (sorry to steal thread but if anyone has any info on this with IB5`s??? )

Looking good though, JWRC kit next then

nah i don't really like the jwrc kit it'd be fine for what it's meant for but as i need to use this car on the road too it'd be a nightmare i'm thinking depending on what sort of power output i mighthave to get it strengthened as for straight-cut gears... i'd rather not go that far as i've been in an elise with them and it's deafening and i really doubt a case of turn the music up'd cover it up either

cheers for the website though will have a look

Really liking it. Thank god you have some decent stoppers behind the large wheels. However - have you thought of getting a set of tatty 15's with some sticky rubber for the track days?

I can't imagine those wheels being up to much on the track - look sweet though.

P.S. how much of a budget do you have for the tb's? There are several options for this engine.

the tatty 15's wouldn't fit over my brakes so basically need a set of compo 16's to fit round them or more normal 17's

as for my budget it's not so much a budget as a buy the parts when you can afford to then save for fitting/setting it up

i mean i could take a loan out but i'd rather do it this way that way it takes me a little longer so i can look for the best parts etc and have everything planned out and not rushed

i have also started looking into supercharging but know very little about what i would need to do to the car for that
