Default what fits a sierra estate

just got given a sierra estate 2.0GT. going to use it as a runabout while my frst is off road getting rebuilt, but its fairly clean so was going to tidy it up a bit.

what parts can i use from other sierras either saphs or hatches.

was looking at lowering it, a set of alloys, and an exhaust and filter just to make it a bit nicer.

so would like to know if cossie springs and shocks etc would fit, also exhausts, or would it need extending to fit an estate?
any info on swapable parts would be good.

pretty much anything. only different thing is rear doors and rear suspension

it's same length, so any exhaust will fit

what is different with the rear suspension when compared to the others?

is there anything out there to lower it?

shocks are different , not sure what other springs would fit though the spring rate is different..

the exhaust is 4 inches longer
and the bends round the rear suspension are different too
other than that, the rest is just normal sierra stuff, but the back end is a bit tricky to get sorted without knowing what yu are on about

Is there anyway round this? Would really like it lowered ,

could a normal 2ltr exhaust be modified to fit or will it be a custom job?

cheers Tony

my power engineering 2wd cossie exhaust fits perfectly fits all the mountings and pokes out from the bumper the correct length (same as the sapphire it came off)

i did try a mongoose and it wouldn't fit around the diff / rear suspension as the trailing arms are different shape.

got a mongoos on mine, didn't fit anywhere near
the exhaust i had before that was also 4 inches shorter
and when i put one against the other yu could see that there was 4 inches worth of extra pipe in there
not saying that it's not possible, perhaps you've got a PE exhaust for the estate

in the rear
but on the exhaust books it hsows that the centre section is longer than on the normal sierra

the problem i had was that the exhaust wasn't far enough out of the rear bumper so all the fumes were going back into the car again
extra length in the centre section lost me 7bhp and 8lb/ft so it went onto the back end

back in the day i didn't have a digicam so no pics and the exhaust i had on it when it was 12V TT has been swapped for another one for the 24V TT engine
if i can get hold of that i'll take some snaps to show you

i've also binned all my sierra stuff as of the other month, and in the skip went a 4x4 estate exhaust, complete with extra kinks

this is the normal sierra exuahst routing

note that the pipe gooes round the side of the wishbone

this is the only pic i've got of the car i binned the exhaust off of

so i can't show you the double kink in the exhaust where it goes around a secondary bit of the rear wishbone, i should have one by the weekend though

this isn't to say that ALL exhaust will have this problem, as you can see, one exhaust has been bolted on directly without a problem, but it's not always the case

weird. if the extra length should be in the centre section, how come my 2wd sapphire cossie exhaust fits perfectly to all the mounts on my estate?

maybe it's because the centre mounts are on the rear beam, and i'm using the cossie beam (with estate semi-trailing arms)

the 2.9 4wd estate has the mounts in the same place, the one on the drivers side is the same as all sierra's but the other one is bolted in place, as per all the V6 and cossie cars

strange indeed, perhaps you have lucked out

Well chaps, i have just refitted my mates new Mongoose exhaust to his twin turbo est as he fitted it with his eyes closed It does sit close to the wishbone but it does clear and it sits in the right place out of the bumper. The only difference on the estates are the bulges on the wishbones for the bump stops. We nearly put a custom curve to give added clearance but with strong exhaust rubbers its fine Have got about 1/2" clearance from the wishbone
