Default Boxter or XK8?

Porsche or Jag?...The missus wants a new car

Needs auto....so i can scrape enuff for a Boxter tiptronic around 98 year or a 4.0 XK8 auto same year....2 totally different cars and the decision is mine as i am paying for it I love em both and hate the missus

...boxter is a wise choice really as its smaller be better on petrol and probably more reliable....although only 2 seats....the XK8 is flashier and has enuff room to bung a rottie on the back seat...

Not really much point her having a supercharger if its just to pose round in anyway mate.
Plus it would be faster than your escos in certain circumstances which could be embarassing

Id go for the jag i reckon, the XK8 seems to be pretty much without any major faults as it doesnt munch through the gearbox the way the supercharged ones do.

Awesome cars to drive, and automatic suits the "executive express" feel they have.

Boxster will be more fun... even with that SHITE gearbox. Alot cheaper to run as well. a 98 will be a 2.5 though and they are pretty slow with that nasty gearbox mate.

Jag much more luxurious and comfy and slightly more practical I suppose although those rear seats are usless and the Boxster has two boots don't forget.

Depends what type of car she wants really.

Are you capable of making any decisions in your life without the aid of Passford Phil Surely its what your wife wants and not what the people on here say you should get

IMO, if it's for a female that wants to pose [assuming the desired effect is related to other peoples opinions of her in the car] I would say the Porsche.

If I saw a woman in a Jag I would assume that she'd borrowed it from her elderly husband/father/insert any type of male over 50 here [delete as appropriate ]. My dad had one to smoke about in a few years ago and yes they are lovely cruisers, they are in fact pretty nice cars when it comes down to it, but he's knocking on the door of 60 and likes to beep his horn at teenage girls

However, if I saw a woman in a Porsche Boxster, I would ask for a go on her tits.

Sell the Ferrari and then with the money you were planning to spend on the Porsche / Jag, add this to the Fezzer money and buy an E46 M3 CSL .

Why does everyone want Phil to get rid of his ferrari everytime he posts about cars?

I quite like it personally

It isn't a "driver's" car, it's a "poser's" car, and most of the people suggesting he gets rid of it are more into driving than posing (we all know you would want to use it in the same manner as Phil - i.e. to pick up school-girls ).

Schoolgirls probably wouldnt think much if it TBH, its too old and not styled how they like things IME, i would imagine most would prefer a bodykitted saxo or similar, and even if they did like the 348, you could only pick one at a time up, which isnt much use, schoolgirls are like antique vases, to be worth anything you need a pair

Jag, without a doubt. Not a Porsche fan and a Boxster has an image problem IMO................wannabe 911 owner, usually wearing stupid sunglasses and a bad haircut.

Jag has class, presence and aura which are things the Porsche will never be able to attain.

Yeah, and I don't rate them at all. I'm not a fan of Porsche full stop, never have been. They are capable cars but IMO they are over rated and way over priced. For £45k there are loads of other cars I would have over a Porsche any day.

Yes Mike lets sell everything and get a shitty depreciating Beemer..smart

The Ferrari is the dogs nuts...goes quite well sounds awesome and everyone thinks i am well off when i turn up anywhere in it

Must admit Clarkson always said if your seen in a Boxster you will be known as the bloke that cant afford a 911...how true

I think XK8 aswell they look staggering and bung a private plate on it and it looks bang upto date...yes bigger wheels is a must

Spade......i am asking opinions on what these cars are like as i have not driven or owned them...so why not ask advice to steer me in the right direction..as pointed out general consensus is boxster is a poor mans 911...so ...or are you trying to grab attension as a negative figure?

£45 get you an early 996 Turbo now or a GT3. Thats SILLY money for truely great cars.

I can't really think of better cars for that money to be honest.

As for overpriced?? is well know that Porsches have been great value for many years now. Thats why they continually win group test after group test and award after award. 996 and 986 Boxster were class leaders right until they were replaced and its now well known that the 997 and 987 are the best in the class again.

Caymen S recently trounced the M3 and Audi RS4 in an Autocar group test as well.

Slag of Porsche owners all you want but the cars are awesome things mate. Stunning to drive in all circumstances and even better to own.(unless you had a late 996 and got it hard in ass recently financially! )

Phil, I think unless your wife is really into cars Phil she may prefer the Jag. Less sporty but very comfy and good looking cruise mobile

I love my Boxster though. She is lovely and sooo beautiful to drive. Not that I have even seen it for a while! My mum stole it and loves driving to work and about it in! Think my mum would even prefer the jag though. They are lovely things the Jags

the only experience i had of a porsche was terrible..a carrera 4 two years ago...it leaked in water through the speakers...the brakes failed and the oil feed pipe imploded causing a smoke screen like a f1 blow up

hence it was soon disposed of and lost shit loads on the resale aswell

I'm not talking about 911's here - I'm on about Boxsters. I know £45k is a new one, but even say £25k for a used one - there are still loads more cars I would have over it. A 911 still isn't my cup of tea but I can see the attraction with those, and if it were the right car I may go for one - with a Boxster I really can't. They look bloody awful as well and have a real image problem...........no offence Lee !!!! Again, all IMO................

I would have to say a jag, just never really liked boxters. It's not that I'm not a porsche fan neither as I really like some others, particularly 911 gt3 rs and 928.

M5, Evo, Audi S8, RS500, Maserati 3200, Lotus Carlton.............and they're just the ones off the top of my head. Cars I personally prefer and would have over and above a Boxster.

I think if its for your missus, then you should let your missus test drive both and see what she likes best.

I hired a boxster when my car broke down two days before USC once, some may remember, lovely car to drive, smooth, everything is all around you and its comfy and great to pose in, but i do think the boxster is more a girls car where as jags are more mens cars.
