You can go to college and 2 a couple of years or pay and go private which i am doing by way of a laon thta works like a student loan i can pay back once i earn over 14.000 a year. Only takes 6 months for level 2 nvq also includes £500 worth of tools membership to some group thing that allows yout o work on building sites and access to there telephone helpine you can call if you have any queries whilst on a job im excited now as all booked in and ready for June 6th
Its a good trade to have. You can travel the world with it. No matter where you go some fella wants a shit or a shower. I'm 4th generation plumber in my family. At it over 15 years. Just doing part time now. Joined the Fire Service and the plumbing defo helped me to get in. Look after your knees. I'm 29 and mine are fooked already. You'll make money if you stay well clear of dodgy builders and there plenty of them coont about. Good luck with it.
Just curious if you got any experience with re-lining ie when you spray epoxi onto inside of the pipes to make them last longer?
We are thinking about doing this to our house as we cant really afford a proper changing of the pipes and the work would make all the flats unusable for quite some time.

Are you joining one of these 'get rich quick, earn £100,000 a year' courses. Load of balls IMHO. I’m an apprentice plumbing and heating engineer, ive just turned 16 (getting a fezza soon) and will be training for at least another 2-3 years BEFORE I can go for my CORGI reg. So 6 months is very optimistic, im not trying to insult anyone but I think some people would need a reality check as they are being naive if they think it is an easy career. Ive been working for my employer for over a year and have nowhere near learned enough to achieve NVQ level 2.
My boss was working for 5 years before he went self employed, a lot of companies will go under as soon as they are started.
If you want to earn £100,000++ be a dentist.
All in all, I think I have chosen the right trade to work in and would recommend it to anyone, just get the correct tools (hilmor, rothenberger, monument, bahco, kopex etc.) -Cos you are only as good as your tools.
Get one of these and earn your cash!

i've been a plumber for 17 years .i posted some pics of some bathrooms i had done last week on someones thread about building work ....to be honest (and i'm not having a dig here )but there's no way you can learn any trade in 6 months, all you'l learn in that time is how to do a bit of pipework and a bit drainage,it's not just a case of sticking a couple of bits of plastic pipe together and getting £300 a day for it ...it's been said that you might be being a bit naive and i think thats putting it politely....hands fooked -yes ....back fooked -yes ...knees fooked -i'm coming up to my third operation and i'm 34 ...so yes'....
it's not a get rich quick trade in the slightest.....there's money to be made and it's only in the last 5 or 6 years that i've started to make a good wage ,but it's not easy.
i've been to lots of jobs to put bathrooms right that have been fitted by people that quite simply don't have a clue and shouldn't have tools in their hands ,especially sharp ones...it's not a case of i've got a pipe bender and a tool box so i'm a plumber...
being a good honest tradesman (any trade )takes years of experience ...
doing your corgi is a different ballgame as well ...again it's years of experience in fitting and fault finding on boilers .....
as i said it's not a get rich quick trade and i hope you're not scared off by what i've said and if you go for it then good luck

found some of the pics i posted,i do the ceilings, plumbing, wall tiles myself and it's not something you can learn in 6 months ....time and patience...hope i'm not putting you off cos there is also job satisfaction in doing this ....

some nice work there chrisp, i have been a plumber for last eight years and totally agree with all that you said, even after doing it for years you are always still learning to an extent, some people think you can do a few quick courses and go straight out and earn £1000s a week, if only life was that easy eh

Like mentioned above, its not as easy as people think.
Ive had young lads working with me to learn the trade, but when they see whats involved in doing the job, they dont last 5 minutes.
Most young lads nowadays want easy money for the least amount of work.
They seem to be good at asking what time it is, answering and texting with their mobiles, going on about cars/shagging their girlfriends and finishing on the dot.
We've all been there, but its only when your older that you get on with the job, build your customer base up and start to make money.
So if you want to make it, crack on with the job and do it properly!

i generally drop it (the new ceiling)down about four inches from the existing ceiling and it gives you a chance to level it off all the way round ,so if your cutting tiles to it you end up with the same size cuts all the way round
lol, it does look pretty neat though i must say.
What would you all reccomend for keeping myself healthy and uninjured so im not needin ops in ten or so years?

knee pads are an absolute must scott ...i've started usind a kneel board which is about 2ft square and triple layered with foam ,(similar to a fitness mat.)
it's my knees that are the worst as i didn't use anyprotection early on ..i've had two cartlidge trims and have a split and frayed cruiate(spelling? ) ligament in my right knee (surgeon took photo's of it during the last op)...i can't sit in any sort of position for more than a couple of minutes without having to adjust my legs
hands and back are just generally worn ,i might have got dodgy hands of my dad cos he's had a few op's to release tendons in both hands ....i always say that i'm gonna end up with hands like budgies feet
you need to generally look after yourself ,not just in plumbing but in any construction trade as they are all physically demanding...
clayton's got it spot on imo about the majority of younger people (not all ,but most) wanting easy money for little amount of graft ...i call them blairs children, and that's probably one of the reasons for there being a shortage of most construction trades.....
